Area of the "former product railway station" is sold to Verkehrsverbund Mittelsachsen GmbH
At its meeting today, the city council decided to sell the "former product railway station" property to Verkehrsverbund Mittelsachsen GmbH.
The VMS needs the site to build a new depot for the Chemnitz model. The capacities of the local transport company CVAG on Adelsbergstraße will no longer be sufficient if the Chemnitz model is further expanded and more vehicles are in use and therefore need to be maintained. An additional location is therefore absolutely necessary. New vehicle and workshop halls as well as an administration building are to be built on the Dresdner Straße site. Various alternatives in the city were evaluated and the site of the "former product railway station" on Dresdner Straße turned out to be the best option.
The city of Chemnitz attaches great importance to the attractive development of the Chemnitz model. For this reason, the previous plans to build a business park for medium-sized companies at the "former product railway station" site were changed.
Nevertheless, the provision of commercial space remains a high priority for the City of Chemnitz and is to be realised in other areas of the city in the near future in order to meet demand.
