Arabic words in the German language
Course offered at the adult education centre, 18 January, 6.45 to 8.15 p.m.
Where do the words "giraffe", "mattress" and "sugar" actually come from? From Arabic! The German language borrowed many expressions from Arabic, so-called "Arabisms", especially in the Middle Ages and at the beginning of the modern era. Arabic terms originally entered the German vocabulary mainly via Romance languages, such as Italian or French, and through migrations of peoples.
In the course at the adult education centre next Thursday, 18 January, from 6.45 to 8.15 pm, some examples and their meaning in Arabic will be examined. Participation costs 6 euros. Registration required on 0371 488 4321 or info(at)vhs-chemnitz.de
