Approval of the second construction phase of the reconstruction of Zschopauer Straße (old) from Bergfrieden to Hermersdorfer Straße

Street tree planting and greening of the noise barriers on Zschopauer Straße continues with over 200 trees

The second construction phase of Zschopauer Straße will be opened next Monday, 19 October 2015. This involves the reconstruction of Zschopauer Straße (old) between Bergfrieden and Hermersdorfer Straße.

The entire road surface, the supply network (sewage, gas, drinking water, electricity and lighting) were renewed together with the utility company eins and the waste disposal company of the city of Chemnitz (ESC) and a one-sided footpath was created. There will also be two new bus stops, which are expected to be equipped with bus shelters from spring 2016. The preliminary work for this was also carried out as part of the construction project. In addition, the ESC brought forward the sewer construction work for W.-Busch-Straße.

The carriageway width between Walter-Janka Straße and Hermersdorfer Straße is now
6.50 metres and an additional 1.50 metres of pavement. Towards the city centre, the section of the old Zschopauer Straße up to Otto-Thörner-Straße now has the status of a municipal road with an access function for residents. The width is reduced to 6.0 metres up to around W.-Busch-Str. and then to 4.75 metres with a footpath on one side.

Due to the favourable weather conditions in winter 2014/15, the road can be opened approx. four weeks earlier than planned.

This will also mean that the CVAG shuttle bus service on route 56 and the additional trips on RVE route 206 will be cancelled and the routes will run as scheduled again as before the full closure began.

Minor remaining work on the peripheral areas (access roads and pavements) will be carried out following the planting work (trees and shrubs) on behalf of the Parks Department until December, depending on the weather. The road markings will also be applied. If it is not possible to complete the marking work by 19 October 2015 due to weather conditions, it will be carried out later, weather permitting.

The planned budget of 3.04 million euros for the construction project was adhered to.

Street tree planting continues with over 200 trees

After the planting of a total of 81 trees in the first section (between Südring and Georgistraße) on the newly extended Zschopauer Straße and the adjacent areas was completed in autumn 2014, work on the greening work in the second section between Georgistraße and Bergfrieden and on the rebuilt Zschopauer Straße (old) began at the end of September. The work is being carried out by Piepenbrock Begrünungen GmbH from Zwickau.

The greening work on the side areas and the noise barriers will be completed in calendar week 43. Work to prepare the tree planting will begin immediately afterwards. As soon as the trees have matured in the tree nursery, the 212 trees will be delivered.

Tree planting is scheduled to begin in mid-November. Initially, 74 standard trees (plane trees) will be planted directly along the new route. In addition, a further 13 trees (four elms, three lime trees, two robinia, two oaks and two maples) will be planted in the green areas at road junctions and behind the noise barrier.

On the remodelled Zschopauer Straße (old), 125 standard trees (oaks) will be planted as street trees.

The costs for the greening services in this second section will total 185,000 euros for planning and construction services.
