App brings images of French cultural assets to life
Photo exhibition starts on 12 October, 5 pm, Galerie Roter Turm
An exhibition of international photographers will be opened by Mayor Miko Runkel on Tuesday 12 October at 5 pm in the Galerie Roter Turm (market side entrance). The opening will take place in the presence of Michèle Lutz, Mayor of Mulhouse, and Christophe Steyer, Director of the Institut français in Saxony. A French delegation from the twin town of Mulhouse is currently visiting Chemnitz to mark the 40th anniversary of the town twinning.
Media representatives are cordially invited to the exhibition opening.
For "France eMotion - Le voyage animé", four international photographers - Ishola Akpo from Benin, Edu Monteiro from Brazil, David Schalliol from the USA and Lourdes Segade from Spain - each travelled to a part of the country and photographed 35 cultural sites.
To bring these photos to life, French artists Julie Chheng and Thomas Pons have created an animated character that moves and transforms in the photos with the help of a free mobile augmented reality app. France eMotion is thus an artistic experience at the interface between photography and digital animation that takes viewers on a surprising journey and invites them to discover or rediscover the richness of French cultural heritage.
The mobile augmented reality app is accessible to everyone. The app can be downloaded by entering the title of the exhibition in the relevant smartphone app store. It is available free of charge.
The travelling exhibition can be seen in Chemnitz until 30 October. Conceived in Paris, the photo exhibition has already been shown worldwide. In Saxony, it previously travelled to Leipzig and Dresden.
The exhibition is a collaboration between Galerie Roter Turm, the Association of Friends and Sponsors of the Institut français in Saxony and the Institut français in Saxony.
