Another group of organisms discovered in the Petrified Forest

US-American researcher supports the Museum für Naturkunde

Dr Carla Harper from the University of Kansas has been conducting research at the Museum für Naturkunde Chemnitz since Monday, 5 December 2016. She is looking for fungal structures in fossilised wood. "The material is promising and ingenious," says the palaeontologist, who is financing her stay in Germany with a research fellowship from the Humboldt Foundation.

With the expected results, another group of organisms in the Permian ecosystem can be identified for Chemnitz - the fungi.

In addition to the scientific achievements, Dr Carla Harper's work shows that museum collections hold an inexhaustible wealth of knowledge. This must be discovered and recognised. For this reason, the Museum für Naturkunde Chemnitz works in an international network with other research institutions.

Dr Harper is available for a personal interview or photo.
