Annual kick-off of the Capital of Culture Office
Dr Ulrich Fuchs and Ib Christensen, two European Capital of Culture experts, once again came to Chemnitz for two days
After intensive discussions and expert exchanges with various protagonists of the Chemnitz Capital of Culture application, Dr Ulrich Fuchs, current chairman of the EU jury for the selection of European Capitals of Culture, drew a positive conclusion yesterday: "I have seen many interesting locations over the last two days, spoken to many political and cultural leaders and believe that Chemnitz is on the right track."
Dr Fuchs visited the city together with Ib Christensen, Head of the Culture Department in Aarhus, the Danish Capital of Culture 2017. The two international experts had come to Chemnitz at the invitation of the Capital of Culture Office in order to contribute their experience and expertise to the current application process. Ferenc Csák, the project manager for the Capital of Culture application, emphasised that, in addition to the advice from
Fuchs on the details of the content of the application, he was particularly interested in the financing and cooperation with the surrounding regions in Aarhus. A topic that also brought the mayors of the neighbouring Chemnitz towns and municipalities to the table on Monday during the expert visit.
At the end of the visit, Dr Ulrich Fuchs gave the city the following advice for 2018: "Thoroughness comes before speed." The jury was impressed above all by quality, seriousness and authenticity, not speed.
