Annenschule and Einsiedel daycare centre reopen on Monday - Euba reservoir level has dropped significantly - Some roads remain closed

The repair of the flood damage continues today, further closures are gradually being lifted and schools and daycare centres are returning to normal operations.

After a week's break, lessons are starting again at the Annenschule, albeit with restrictions: The PC technology cannot yet be used again, and the damage to the outdoor facilities, including the sports facilities, will be repaired in the coming weeks. The gymnasium and workrooms in the basement cannot be used until further notice.

After the daycare centre in Moritzstraße was able to reopen today, the Einsiedel daycare centre will also be open again from Monday. Until the kitchen reopens, however, parents will bring their own breakfast and snacks, while lunch will be delivered by the caterer. Parents have already been informed.

The controlled draining of the Euba dam is well underway: on Friday morning, a water level of 9.40 metres was recorded. This means that the water level is already almost two metres below this week's high of 12.14 metres. The aim is to lower it to around seven metres. The dam and the outlet will also be checked three times a day at the weekend.

Some roads and bridges will remain closed over the weekend due to the flood damage. However, the pedestrian bridge at the market hall and the pedestrian bridge at Harthau railway station have been reopened since today. The closure of Limbacher Straße should be lifted by Saturday evening at the latest after the demolition of the Marble Palace.

The following are currently still closed:

  • Chemnitztalradweg (between Lohrstraße and Dammweg and between Fischweg and Heinersdorfer Straße), due to undercutting
  • Feudelstraße (due to landslide)
  • Pedestrian bridge Schulstraße
  • Pedestrian bridge between Talsperrengrund and Einsiedler Hauptstraße
  • Pedestrian bridge Erfenschlager Straße (at HNr. 179)
  • Glösaer Straße (near the transformer station), further soaking in the road area
  • Court steps (due to heavy soaking)
  • Heinersdorfer Straße (near the sewage treatment plant)
  • Inselsteig (bridge, gas damage)
  • Kauffahrtei (between Heinrich-Lorenz-Straße and Scheffelstraße)
  • Klaffenbacher Hauptstraße (HNo. 52 to Würschnitz)
  • Querweg (Wittgensdorf) -> closed by the building yard
  • Eubaer Straße cycle path at Euba reservoir due to water drainage from the reservoir
  • Access to Einsiedler Hauptstraße HNr.1 via Kurt-Franke-Straße

The affected road sections will only be opened after the entire traffic area (including the pavements) has been checked by the civil engineering office. The sandbags will be collected by the ASR and road users are once again reminded that they drive around the full disc at their own risk. Some of the closed roads have been damaged by the high volumes of water.

The floods and heavy rainfall of the past few days have also caused considerable damage to some of Chemnitz's public green spaces. According to initial findings, the road surfaces in particular were affected. For this reason, until the damage has been repaired, the Parks Department is asking all citizens to take appropriate care and attention when lingering and passing through public green spaces and parks.
