America Day - Chemnitz celebrates relations with the USA
Numerous events planned for 12 May - Consul General visits the city
On Friday, 12 May, Chemnitz celebrates America Day. The German-American theme day is intended to break down prejudices, strengthen relations between the countries and make the
American culture for the people of Chemnitz. The City of Chemnitz is organising America Day with the Consulate General of the United States of America.
Consul General Ken Toko is coming to Chemnitz on this day and will visit a street food market on the forecourt of the TIETZ on Reitbahnstraße with Lord Mayor Sven Schulze. They will christen a tram with the name "Akron" at the Annenplatz bus stop. Citizens will have the opportunity to talk to both men.
The Education USA team will be hosting information stands at Chemnitz University of Technology and the TIETZ, where young people can find out about study opportunities, au pairs and internships in the USA.
A reading and discussion in German and English will begin at 6 pm in the TIETZ event hall. Martina J. Kohl will present her book "Family Matters - Vom Leben in zwei Welten".
A concert will begin at 8 pm in St Mark's Church, performed by the Tuesday Singers together with Kirk Smith & Band. Kirk Smith was a contestant on the casting show "The Voice of Germany" and performs jazz, soul, pop, swing and gospel with his band.
