Good news for bathers: the "Am Südring" indoor swimming pool will be open again from Monday, 3 November. The work on the interior of the hall has now been completed and the work still to be carried out on the roof, plinth and sun protection on the exterior is expected to be finished by the beginning of December. Before the hall is reopened to bathers, the health authorities are currently carrying out the hygiene checks and water tests required before the pool can be reopened in the 25-metre pool and the non-swimmers' pool.

In total, the city of Chemnitz will invest around €340,000 in the extensive construction work carried out at "Am Südring" since July 2014, of which around €160,000 is state funding. The main focus of the construction project was the replacement of the glass façade in the area of the swimming pool body. The decision to replace the glass façade of the swimming pool, which opened 22 years ago, was made by the city council at its May 2014 meeting (B-098/2014).

Work on replacing the glass façade in the area of the swimming pool body has been underway since July and work on replacing the first elements began at the end of August. The façade elements installed meet the current requirements of the German Energy Saving Ordinance (EnEV) and were designed with three panes of insulating glass. The static solar shading, which is still to be installed by the end of November, should enable bathers to swim without glare as far as possible in future. The company Wertbau-Elemente GmbH from Langenwetzendorf has been commissioned to carry out the work.

The following work was also carried out at the same time as the replacement of the hall glass fronts: The heat distribution station was completely rebuilt, including the adaptation work in the area of measurement and control technology (MSR) to replace the outdated and worn heat exchangers. Around 135,000 euros were invested in this alone. Around 8,000 euros were spent on painting and tiling work and a total of around 30,000 euros were spent on repairing the ventilation system, overhauling the circulation pumps and changing the pool water pipework. Final, and in some cases noisy, work on the exterior of the glass façade and therefore on the indoor pool is still required, probably until December. Bathers are asked for their understanding for this minor restriction in connection with the reopening. The Sports Office is endeavouring to complete this necessary work as quickly as possible, depending on the weather.
