Alternative daycare centre in Alfred-Neubert-Straße receives improved fire protection and new electrical system

Yesterday, the Planning, Construction and Environment Committee initiated the comprehensive improvement of fire protection, the installation of a second escape route and the renovation of the electrical system in the daycare centre at Alfred-Neubert-Str. 22. After standing empty for several years, the daycare centre has been used as an alternative building since 2013. As there was no second structural escape route, the daycare centre had to be temporarily upgraded in terms of fire safety, including with a temporary staircase.

The existing facility had a temporary building permit until December 2016, which was not extended. Until then, the facility was the temporary home of the Schulstraße 35 daycare centre. As the Children and Youth Welfare Office now plans to use the building as a temporary home until at least 2022, a permanent structural solution is required. To this end, the necessary fire protection measures must be structurally implemented in accordance with the rules of technology and the currently applicable regulations. These include the construction of an external steel staircase on the east gable of the building, the creation of a new escape route via an external door from the kitchen area in the basement, the creation of necessary connecting doors between group rooms and the installation of a fire alarm system to the existing staircase.

The electrical system will also be completely renewed. The daycare centre will not be occupied during the entire construction period. A total of 310,000 euros has been budgeted for the construction work, which is scheduled to be completed by the first quarter of 2018.
