Altchemnitz school presents its project for the Saxon school garden competition

On Friday, 29 September at 1 p.m., the City of Chemnitz's Children and Youth Commissioner, Ute Spindler, and representatives of the City of Chemnitz's Environmental Agency will be guests at the Altchemnitz School - Special Needs Centre with a focus on learning, which is currently located at Philippstraße 20. On the last day before the autumn holidays, the pupils presented the progress made in designing a school garden in the Philippstraße building as part of the Saxon School Garden Competition. After successfully completing the second stage of the competition, the Altchemnitz school is one of the ten finalists.
Representatives of the media are also cordially invited.
With the help of dedicated teachers and the support of various campaign partners as well as the school's support association, the pupils independently redesigned the schoolyard and outdoor area at Philippstraße 20.
The pupils presented the project to other children at the children's conference on 25 September at Chemnitz Town Hall.
Saxon school garden competition
Under the motto "Turn grey into green!", pupils and their teachers are involved in the Saxon School Garden Competition to transform their school grounds into a green, natural oasis. The competition is organised in three stages and runs for a total of two years. The ten best entries were selected from the 30 winners of the first round at the beginning of September. These will receive prize money totalling 1,000 euros.
A jury will visit them on site in May 2024. The three state winners will then be selected and honoured at a ceremony in Dresden in June 2024. They will then receive prize money totalling 2,500 euros.
