Almost 7 million euros for Chemnitz
Federal Cultural Foundation supports sustainable cultural projects beyond 2025
The German Federal Cultural Foundation is supporting a follow-up project to the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 with 6.95 million euros.
The "Young Capital of Culture Chemnitz" programme will support artistic projects and events until 2029, to which European artists will also be invited.
The foundation also justified its support with the concept of allowing the Capital of Culture to have an impact beyond 2025 and promoting sustainable projects that do not have to end in 2025.
Lord Mayor Sven Schulze: "I am very grateful to the Federal Cultural Foundation. With this decision, the Foundation is already enabling Chemnitz to continue to cultivate and grow the basis for the legacy of the European Capital of Culture 2025 (Legacy) in the years to come. With the 'Young Capital of Culture Chemnitz' programme, we can implement many ideas that unfortunately did not make it into the 2025 programme.
In this way, we are creating many opportunities to involve other stakeholders in our rich cultural landscape beyond 2025."
The "Young Capital of Culture Chemnitz" programme will begin next year with a kick-off meeting of European artists. A kind of base for young artists is also to be created in Chemnitz in the coming years. The concept was developed by the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 GmbH and the German Federal Cultural Foundation.
