Allotment garden association "Waldesluft" Grüna wins the state competition

Saxon allotment gardens in town and country honoured

The allotment garden association "Waldesluft" Grüna is the winner of the state competition "Saxon allotment gardens in town and country", which this year had the motto "Allotment garden summer: cool and together instead of heated and lonely". The association prevailed against twelve competitors and took first place ahead of the allotment garden association "Dresden-West" and "Kultur" from Leipzig.

From Chemnitz, the allotment garden associations "Sachses Ruh" and "Hammerfrieden" were represented alongside "Waldesluft". The site of the allotment garden association "Waldesluft" Grüna is built close to nature, the individual gardens are densely overgrown with vegetables, fruit and many flowering plants. The "Green Nursery" project introduces the youngest children to natural gardening.

Georg-Ludwig von Breitenbuch, Minister of State for the Environment and Agriculture, emphasised at the award ceremony that people benefit from the improvement of the microclimate through the green oases of the allotment gardens. For this reason, allotment gardens should be integrated even more into urban development concepts.

By winning the state competition, the "Waldesluft" allotment garden association will also take part in the national competition, which will take place in 2026.
The next Chemnitz allotment garden competition will take place in 2027.
