All investments of the City of Chemnitz secured in the 2024 budget
Treasurer Ralph Burghart has presented details of the plans for the coming year
The City of Chemnitz will continue to be able to act in the coming year and will be able to realise all planned investments. This was explained by Finance Mayor Ralph Burghart in a press conference today.
Accordingly, there will be no cuts in funding for independent organisations, culture and sport in 2024.
"It is a good signal to everyone if both the planned investments in the budget and the funds for the Capital of Culture are available without any ifs and buts," said Mayor Ralph Burghart. "However, due to the expected financial shortfall of almost 100 million euros, we will have to make cuts in certain areas. If we don't make targeted savings now, we will have no chance of getting the budgets approved from 2025 onwards."
For this reason, the mayors jointly decided at a closed meeting in November that savings should be made primarily in areas where money was left over from previous years or where the planned items were significantly higher than those of the previous year. These blocked items can be cancelled in individual cases, but must then be offset in other areas.
