All-clear on the Sonnenberg - the suspicious object was a water pipe
The suspicious object found during construction work on the Sonnenberg is an old water pipe. This was the result of the excavation this morning at the construction site on Jakobstraße. The explosive ordnance disposal service gave the all-clear and the city was therefore able to dispense with the evacuation of around 20,000 residents in the exclusion zone.
Mayor Barbara Ludwig thanked everyone involved for their preparations and the citizens for their understanding. "From the fire brigade and the police to all the aid organisations and bus and train companies involved, everyone was prepared as far as possible for the eventuality of the area being evacuated. This was a huge effort. We are all relieved that no bomb has been found and that we do not have to implement these extensive plans. I would like to thank the citizens for their great understanding that we prepared them for this possible situation in advance."
