Album of Chemnitz history

Press conference: Tuesday, 21 August, 10.30 a.m., City Archive

On Tuesday, 21 August, the city archive invites you to the presentation of the volume "Album der Chemnitzer Geschichte". The event starts at 10.30 a.m. in the city archive, Aue 16, attic consulting room. The work is a joint project of the city archive and its former director, Gabriele Viertel, for this year's city anniversary 875 years of Chemnitz. Over 30 authors were involved in compiling the volume. The project was financially supported by Chemnitzer Wirtschaftsförderungs- und Entwicklungs GmbH.

On over 220 pages, important turning points and developments in the history of Chemnitz since 1143 are presented. The work contains over 105 illustrations in full colour, most of which come from the city archives, but also from institutions in Dresden and Leipzig, the Schloßbergmuseum, Chemnitz theatres and private collections.

The majority of the illustrations are being presented for the first time, including a tax register from around 1200, in which "the city" is mentioned for the first time. Or a coin from the 13th century, which comes from the Neefe-Lade. The volume concludes with texts and pictures on the "new centre" of Chemnitz and the economic development of the city at the beginning of the third millennium.
