Alberti Park is being created on the Sonnenberg
Construction work started on the new town square in the Zietenstraße/Fürstenstraße area
Since Monday, 11 December, the brownfield site in the Zietenstraße/Fürstenstraße area has been transformed into a public park, the future Alberti Park. Most recently, the area was used as a storage area for work on the district heating route along Zietenstrasse.
In future, a newly paved forecourt will form the prelude to the new town square. Adjacent to this, parallel to Zietenstrasse, a band of trees will be created, which will recreate the length and width of the former perimeter block development. Pedestrians will be able to stroll in the light shade of the trees. Comfortable benches, a boules area and interesting play equipment will offer opportunities to linger.
A special accent will be created by the city's own "Haarwäsche" fountain. The existing lawn area away from the road forms a contrast to this. A new pathway with attractive planting and rotating play areas will provide plenty of space for physical activities or relaxing in the greenery.
The work, which was planned by sLandArt and is being implemented by Fachcenter Garten + STL-Bau GmbH, is expected to be completed by the end of June 2018.
The construction project, which was approved by the planning, building and environment committee in November 2016, will cost around 370,000 euros. The measure is being supported by urban development funding from the "Urban Redevelopment East" programme.
