Aid delivery for Timbuktu
Today, an aid delivery with important hygiene articles and medical equipment is leaving Chemnitz for the twin city of Timbuktu. Hand sanitiser, protective suits, FFP2 masks, protective bonnets, gloves, protective goggles, surgical masks, pulse oximeters, forehead thermometers and pupil lights were provided by the city's fire brigade.
Timbuktu is currently dramatically affected by the coronavirus pandemic. There are no masks or gloves, and even bed linen is completely lacking. Not to mention ventilators and the like. That is why the Chemnitz-Timbuktu town twinning association organised an aid campaign for the hospital in Timbuktu together with other partners.
Lord Mayor Sven Schulze: "City partnerships are particularly important in difficult times. With our donation, we are trying to improve the situation in Timbuktu a little. I would like to thank the partner association for its commitment, which we are happy to support."
Timbuktu and Chemnitz, then known as Karl-Marx-Stadt, have been twinned since 1968.
