After decision of the Free State: Christmas market cannot take place
This evening, the Free State of Saxony presented the key points of the new Corona Protection Ordinance. According to this, the organisation of Christmas markets in Saxony is prohibited this year. This means that the Chemnitz Christmas market cannot take place.
Until recently, the city of Chemnitz had prepared the Christmas market under coronavirus conditions, including by reducing the number of stalls and setting up areas for strolling and lingering.
The dismantling of the Christmas market stands will be coordinated in the coming days. It is then planned that the weekly market will move back to the market areas around the town hall.
Further information will be available after the publication of the Corona Protection Ordinance.
The Christmas market fees already paid will be refunded to the traders. With regard to the bridging aid promised by the federal government, the city will offer its support in the application process.
