Advice from the fire brigade at the turn of the year: Take care when handling fireworks
The fireworks on New Year's Eve will once again traditionally light up the sky over Chemnitz - but caution is advised. Here are some tips from the Chemnitz fire brigade to ensure that the turn of the year goes off without injury or fire:
- When using fireworks or other pyrotechnic products, it is essential to follow the instructions for use!
- Do not aim fireworks at people or animals.
- Under no circumstances should fireworks intended for outdoor use be set off indoors.
- When setting off rockets, the direction of flight must be chosen so that they cannot fly against buildings or into building openings.
- Pay particular attention to "duds".
- Extinguish glowing remains and dispose of them safely.
- Table fireworks should be set off on a fireproof surface and not directly under paper garlands.
- Never make your own fireworks!
- Be careful with products from abroad, as they often do not comply with local regulations. (Only fireworks with a BAM licence may be purchased and used).
- In addition, there should be no flammable objects on balconies and terraces on New Year's Eve.
On New Year's Eve last year, the Chemnitz fire brigade had to respond to 27 incidents. These included operations due to improper handling of fireworks.
