Adult education centre: Summer semester starts on 26 February
The summer semester at Chemnitz Adult Education Centre begins on Monday, 26 February. Registration for the approximately 570 courses on offer has been possible online since 4 December 2023. Since 5 February of this year, it has also been possible to search for desired courses in the current programme catalogue.
The Adult Education Centre team has a number of new courses in its programme for the coming semester: these include foreign language courses for Dutch, insights into the work of an interpreter, the "Mobile with public transport" project, outdoor yoga, vegan brunch ideas and photography from the bird's eye view of a multicopter. The series of events on music and deviance in the GDR in cooperation with the Institute of Political Science at Chemnitz University of Technology and the Lern- und Gedenkort Kaßberg-Gefängnis e. V. is not only of interest to contemporary witnesses. In terms of content, it is about the very lively punk and heavy metal cultures of the time. The event will kick off on Thursday, 7 March with "Punk in the GDR - a cry for freedom or just a copy of the West?", a reading and discussion with author and contemporary witness Geralf Pochop.
The thematic focus in the coming semester and the following semester will be on our home continent of Europe. Among other things, European values, traditions, cultural and social characteristics and challenges will be addressed - always in a vivid and realistic way. Lectures, workshops, exhibitions and cookery courses illustrate how much we have in common with people in other European countries.
Two countries will be examined in more detail during the summer semester: From 11 to 27 March, the adult education centre will focus on the neighbouring country of Poland - with topics such as language, sport, politics and humour. The second country weeks will take us to Finland from 27 May to 7 June. This country in the far north of Europe has shaped sauna culture and spawned Nordic walking. During the Finland Weeks, however, the focus will also be on the great Finnish passion for pop songs and tango, insights into the Finnish education system as well as coffee enjoyment and cinnamon buns - or as they say in Finland: Kahvi ja Korvapuusti.
