Adult education centre remembers: Forced labour under the swastika in Chemnitz
On Monday, 28 January, from 7 to 8.30 p.m., the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre is hosting an event dedicated to commemorating the crimes of the National Socialists in Chemnitz. The occasion is the International Day of Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust, which takes place annually on 27 January. The venue is the event hall in the TIETZ. Admission is free.
Between 1939 and 1945, forced labourers and prisoners of war were deployed in Chemnitz, mainly to work for the German armaments industry. The event will present the latest research findings on the crimes committed by the National Socialists at the end of the war in Chemnitz and the slave labour of concentration camp prisoners. It will also show how people from occupied countries were forced to perform forced labour. This will be supplemented with summarised research results from a project of the "Local Action Plan for Democracy, Tolerance and a Cosmopolitan Chemnitz".
This event is a cooperation between the civic initiative "Historischer Atlas Sachsen 1933 - 1945", the VVN-BdA Chemnitz and the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre.
