Adult education centre: Online booking start for the summer semester programme

On Monday, 13 December, Chemnitz Adult Education Centre will put its new programme for the 2022 summer semester online. From 10 a.m., it will be possible to find and book the desired course at www.vhs-chemnitz.de.

The Chemnitz Adult Education Centre's summer semester begins on 7 March 2022, with around 600 courses from six subject areas to choose from. As in the winter semester 2021, the courses will take place both on site at the adult education centre and online. In addition, exchange courses will be offered that can take place flexibly both in the real and virtual classroom. Hybrid teaching models are also being tested.

As usual, the Adult Education Centre has put together a very varied programme for the summer semester. In addition to tried and tested classics, many new courses will be starting in the summer programme. Novelties and highlights include

Project "trau.schau.wem?" - fact-based and media-safe with the adult education centre
One focus in the 2022 summer semester will be on the "trau.schau.wem?" project, which was launched in September this year.

"We are bundling target group-specific offers in this project - on the one hand, to jointly develop an understanding of and for media and, on the other, to rethink our own usage behaviour," says Grit Bochmann, Head of Chemnitz Adult Education Centre. In addition to lectures on highly controversial topics such as "Fact and Fake" with the renowned media professor Bernhard Pörksen from Tübingen, parents and educators in particular are invited to deal with online phenomena such as social media, cyberbullying and grooming as well as cost traps with apps. The aim is to educate children and young people as well as their adult carers about these topics and to sensitise them to problems. Older people who are more reluctant to use online media can find out about the many possibilities of digitalisation. Courses on smartphone use, messenger services, news apps and e-papers can help to break down fears and arouse curiosity to try things out. As an understanding of the media is promoted by experiencing it for yourself, you are also invited to join in. The workshop series "Chemnitz medial entdecken" offers the opportunity to research and realise your own media contributions.

Sustainable, mindful, enjoyable - a healthy lifestyle with the adult education centre
A conscious lifestyle with consideration for oneself, others and the environment has become increasingly desirable for many people in recent years. The adult education centre's health and ecological education programmes can help you achieve this. Participants receive practical suggestions on how to maintain a climate-friendly lifestyle through everyday habits, for example in courses on sustainable food handling - from shopping to preservation. There is also all kinds of nature to discover - and create - in the programmes offered by the new "Living Consciously" specialist group. The topics range from upcycling ideas to designing your own garden in a species-friendly way. A total of 42 relaxation courses ensure a healthy balance.
New to the programme is Anusara Yoga, a school developed in the USA in 1997 which, among other things, promotes a healthy posture from within. Courses in yoga and fitness on the Stand Up Paddle Board (SUP) are also making their debut. Both can be tried out on the Oberrabenstein reservoir. Twelve cookery courses for local and international ingredients are on offer for a tasty refreshment.

Getting ahead in the world - with foreign language courses at the adult education centre
Even if the world has become a little smaller due to pandemic-related travel restrictions - the next holiday abroad is sure to come. With the right language skills, everyone can get there and get ahead. In the summer semester, the adult education centre is offering around 200 courses in twelve different languages - from A for Arabic to U for Hungarian. The programme can be expanded on request. Suggestions from interested parties are always welcome.

Secure a place on your favourite course now
As always, it is advisable to secure a place on your favourite course now. Even if something does come up, participants who have already registered can remain relaxed. Cancellations can be made free of charge up to six days before the start of the course.

Please note: In accordance with the guidelines for combating the pandemic, general hygiene measures such as social distancing and compulsory masks will continue to be implemented at the adult education centre in the future.
