Chaim Noll, son of the GDR writer Dieter Noll, presents his new book at the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre: "Die Wüste. Literary history of a primeval human landscape". The deserts, drylands and steppes of the earth are expanding, each year by an area roughly the size of Germany. Using literary texts from the emergence of writing to the present day, the book provides an overview of the themes and leitmotifs of a primeval human landscape. The central motif is the
contradictory nature of the desert: It stands simultaneously for drought and blossoming, for a lack of water and an abundance of sunshine, for decline and renewal, for depressing monotony andfor depressing monotony and spiritual highs, for death and life, good and evil, reality and myth.
Following the reading, there will be an opportunity for open dialogue with the author.

0800 111 0 111 or 0800 111 0 222 - everyone has probably seen or at least heard of the telephone counselling numbers. "You can call there if you don't know what to do" is what you hear when people talk about the telephone counselling service. But what worries can I go there with? What happens when I call them? Can I also get help online?
Furthermore: What kind of people are these volunteers who dedicate themselves to the needs of others? What do you need to be able to do to have a helpful conversation? Can you learn how to do this, and if so, how long does it take?
The telephone counselling service is networked throughout Germany, with a free telephone number, 24 hours a day and volunteers. Before you can work on the telephone, you need to undergo a thorough and interesting training programme.
This evening will give you a brief insight into the work of the Chemnitz telephone counselling service under the umbrella of Stadtmission Chemnitz e. You are different, but aren't we all the same? - About diversity, sexual identities and acceptance
Meeting point: TIETZ, Moritzstraße 20, Room 4.07
Participation: free of charge
Registration: online at www.vhs-chemnitz.de/kurs/W2210100
The majority of people think and the general public speaks in terms of men and women. However, these forms of address do not suit everyone. People of different genders live together, but also of the same gender. And there are also people who do not feel they belong to any gender or are not directly categorised. The letters LGBTI* or LGBTQ+ (and other spellings) stand for individual sexual and gender identities such as lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans* and inter*.
In a heteronormative world characterised by the categories of man and woman and opposite-sex relationships, non-heterosexual people face new challenges every day. All of us, whether heterosexuals, lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transsexuals or intersexuals, are dependent on an understanding and accepting environment; we are all part of social diversity.
On this evening, we invite you to get to know the different lifeworlds of people with different sexual identities and to enter into dialogue with each other - about everyday life, bonds and relationships.about everyday life, relationships and family, business and professional relationships, as well as about values and world views, physical limitations and experiences of marginalisation and discrimination. The focus will also be on how forms of exclusion and discrimination can be recognised in language, culture and politics and how unequal treatment can be reduced in everyday life.
Everyone who is open to an encounter with the world of people of different (sexual) identities - with understanding, transparency and fairness - is invited.
The event is a co-operation between the Lesbian and Gay Association (LSVD) Saxony e.V. and the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre. It is part of the Intercultural Weeks 2022 in Chemnitz.

Puberty is one of the most important phases of human development. At the same time, it is considered a difficult and challenging stage of life - especially for adolescents. But it also presents parents and adult carers with major challenges. They are sometimes at a loss and overwhelmed. Here it can be useful to keep the (developmental/educational) goal in mind. The course offers a systemic, solution-oriented perspective from two family counsellors. Neurophysiological changes are considered and specific developmental tasks are addressed in order to achieve an even better understanding of growing children and adolescents. Parents and carers receive impulses to strengthen and motivate them for this important process. The aim is to enable them to accompany their teenagers through puberty with more joy and confidence. After the presentation, there will be enough time to answer the participants' questions. The speakers work at the Counselling Centre for Children, Youth and Family of the Arbeiterwohlfahrt Kreisverband Chemnitz und Umgebung e. V. (Workers' Welfare Association Chemnitz and Surroundings).

In this course for parents and educational professionals, you will learn what iPads can and cannot do and how you can support (your) children and young people in using these tablets. You will also receive answers to these questions: What educational added value do iPads offer for learning? How do you promote media literacy? And what about data protection and remote maintenance?
