Liga Terezín - film screening and discussion

The documentary film "Liga Terezín" (Israel 2012) tells an incredible story that took place in the Theresienstadt ghetto from 1942 to 1944: during this time, the Jewish prisoners organised their own football league in order to escape the cruelty of everyday life for at least 90 minutes at a time. The Theresienstadt ghetto was a kind of "model ghetto" during the Nazi era and the only camp with a football league. The prisoners played against each other in the barracks courtyard and the Nazis used film footage of this for propaganda purposes. When the Israeli Oded Breda discovered his uncle in pictures, he decided to gather more information about the football league and produce a documentary film. Following the film (duration: 52 minutes), there will be an invitation to a discussion with the Terezín Youth Meeting Association (Jugendbegegnung Theresienstadt/Terezín e. V.).
The film screening is a cooperation between ASA-FF and the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre. It takes place as part of the project #Heimspiel of the ASA-FF/programme "neue unentd_ckte narrative" and the CFC fans against racism. www.heimspiel-chemnitz.de

Communication with victims of intimate partner violence

On average, one in four women is affected by intimate partner violence at least once in her lifetime. At the same time, it is often taboo for affected women to talk about it and seek help. But where does violence begin? How can affected women be supported? In this interactive online course, you will learn about the signs, background and consequences of partner violence and practise strategies for empathic dialogue with those affected.

11 September 1973: In Chile, the democratically elected government under Salvador Allende is overthrown in a military coup. The military bombs the government palace in the capital Santiago de Chile and takes over the leadership of the state shortly afterwards. Salvador Allende takes his own life. This marks the beginning of a momentous era of dictatorship for Chile. The new ruler, Augusto Pinochet, had political opponents persecuted, tortured and imprisoned, banned political parties, censorship and violence against critics prevailed. More than 2,000 people were executed and over 1,000 were "disappeared" (desaparecidos) by the regime. Almost a quarter of a million Chileans fled into exile, 2,000 of whom settled in what was then East Germany. In 1974, Lily Böhm also came to Karl-Marx-Stadt as part of a group of Chilean exiles who were taken in by the GDR. She now lives in Chemnitz and will give an eyewitness account of the events of 11 September 1973 in Chile and her exile in the former GDR. This event is the prelude to the three-part VHS series "50 years of the coup in Chile". It commemorates the dramatic events of the fateful day of 11 September 1973 and looks at the 17 years of military dictatorship that followed, as well as the country's democratic development from 1990 to the present day.

We are often confronted in conversations or via the media with deficiencies in the upbringing of our children, inadequacies in school education and a growing propensity for violence among children. Disputes are a part of children's lives, but they must not lead to violence and insults. This is precisely why the "Senior Partners in School" association is doing important work in primary schools across Germany: by using senior volunteers (55+ generation), children are empowered to resolve and end arguments with each other in a non-violent and respectful manner. In the lecture and the subsequent discussion, you will learn about the aims and methods of the organisation and the mediators (arbitrators) active in Chemnitz and gain an insight into this work. You may even become interested in joining the organisation. Because: "Our children are our greatest treasure!" - and who can resist the smiling eyes of children?

Gardeners know the problem when almost nothing grows under the canopy of a huge tree. But surprising discoveries can be made underneath. This event offers solutions for your green problem areas. These include flowering plants that inspire bees and bumblebees. They exist: the uncomplicated perennials that conjure up light even in the darkest garden areas. You will also learn lots of interesting facts about growing fruit in a shade garden and how to use bulbous plants for unrivalled spring magic.

Guided tour of the medical history collection at Chemnitz Hospital

During the tour, you will immerse yourself in the history of medicine in Saxony. For more than 40 years, instruments, equipment and apparatus from various medical specialities have been collected at the Küchwaldkrankenhaus. From ether masks to anaesthesia machines, from rigid bronchoscopes to flexible gastroscopes, you can see and "understand" the equipment during the guided tour. The historic rooms in the old bathhouse are ideal for a tour. Special attention is paid to devices that were developed in Chemnitz and the surrounding area. The archive and library round off the visit to the collection.

The thought of the end of life and dying makes many people anxious and helpless. The last aid course provides basic knowledge about the end of life and aims to encourage people to accompany seriously ill relatives with empathy until their death. Taking into account the complaints that can occur at the end of life, the course aims to provide practical help for relief, introduce farewell rituals and sensitise people to dealing with their own limits.

50 years of the coup in Chile: Chile during the dictatorship and Chile today

Augusto Pinochet overran Chile for 17 years from the 1973 coup as dictator with bloody state terror. Chile only returned to democracy in 1990 and has retained it to this day. The Chilean sociologist and political scientist Stefano Palestini (currently at the University of Trento, Italy) will speak on this evening about the current situation in Chile, the challenges facing the government of current President Gabriel Boric and the future of the country. Ana Albornoz, who was born in Chile and now lives in Chemnitz, will also talk about what it was like to grow up during the military dictatorship and experience the processes of democratic change as a teenager.
Stefano Palestini's lecture will be held in Spanish and simultaneously translated into German.
This event is the second part of the VHS series "50 years of the coup in Chile". It commemorates the dramatic events of the fateful day of 11 September 1973 and looks at the 17 years of military dictatorship that followed, as well as the country's democratic development from 1990 to the present day.

(Re)shaping volunteering - optimising volunteer work in associations

Unfortunately, more and more (sports) clubs are complaining about problems finding volunteers or filling honorary positions. This course introduces the "Lifecycle of Volunteering" model: It is about tried-and-tested approaches to systematically and permanently organise the promotion of volunteering. Useful tools are specifically provided that can help to approach potential volunteers and recruit them to work in (sports) clubs. The aim of the course is to encourage (sports) clubs to tackle the topic of "volunteer management" and take the first steps towards implementation. This course is therefore primarily aimed at managers and those involved in clubs who want to recruit and retain volunteers.
The main contents of the course are

What should you look out for when shopping in view of the wide variety of foods? How should the composition of a product be assessed and what is its nutritional value? What does the Nutriscore mean? Answers to these questions can be found in this practical course. You will learn how to distinguish between best-before and use-by dates and how to read and understand nutritional information and ingredient lists correctly. You will also learn about important quality labels and the legal basis.
To make the content of the course clearer, the course will take place in a supermarket.

Terra Preta: home-made fertile soil for the garden

Terra Preta - the black earth of the Indians - is a way of supplying the soil in the garden with "stable fertiliser". It can be used to build up a fertile perennial humus layer that not only benefits soil health and plant growth. It also helps to bind climate-relevant carbon dioxide. After a brief theoretical introduction to the history, use and production of Terra Preta, this soil is produced together in the course for the "Knappteichgarten" project.

50 years of the coup in Chile: "My grandfather Salvador Allende" - film and discussion

In this documentary film, Marcia Tambutti Allende, a granddaughter of Salvador Allende, shows a multi-layered and differentiated picture of her grandfather that goes beyond the official portrayal of the politician. She began her research 45 years after the coup and came up against taboos and silence in her own family. Her relatives were very reluctant to talk about the past.
Nevertheless, Marcia Tambutti Allende persevered with her research and created a document that adds a private, emotional perspective to the historical picture of the democratic president in a very personal way.
The film was released in cinemas in 2018, lasts 98 minutes and is shown in the original language with German subtitles. There will be an opportunity for discussion after the film.

On a hike through the Rabenstein forest, you can find out what demands our society and each individual place on the forest. With forest district manager Ullrich Göthel, you will examine how multifunctional our forestry is and what effects it has on the forest. Climate change and health: What do you need to know? What can you do?

Everyone is talking about climate change - but what actually is "climate change" and what effects do the current and scientifically predicted climatic changes have on health? What role do natural and environmental factors play? What do scientific studies say? What are climate-related diseases and what preventive measures are there? The lecture and discussion will provide a lot of interesting information on the topic of "climate health" and highlight important socio-political and personal issues. The speaker is an infectious disease and environmental medicine specialist at the University Hospital Halle (Saale) and has been researching the topics of the evening for many years.
