The nationwide network "Start with a Friend" (SwaF) creates personal encounters between people with and without a history of immigration, from different countries and with different experiences. They come together and facilitate joint engagement and encounters through 1:1 tandem partnerships. Behind this is the vision of a society that embraces its diversity. On this evening, SwaF stakeholders from Chemnitz will provide information about their work. They are always on the lookout for people from Chemnitz who are also interested in cultural exchange - for more togetherness.

The body has always been an expression and reflection of the state of society. With its desires and fears, hopes and blockages, its need for regulation and unlocking, it represents what is happening in society as a whole. What happens in the social field of tension between embodiment and disembodiment will be discussed in this Café Philo.

Everyday life at Radio Chemnitz - studio talk for families

Target group: Children aged 8 and over are particularly welcome to attend with their parents and grandparents.
Anyone who listens to Radio Chemnitz only knows one side of reality. Because what does it actually look like behind the scenes, i.e. in the broadcasting studio? What is the day-to-day work of editors and presenters like? How is the news content selected and compiled? And what criteria and principles apply?
In this event, presenter Conny Hartmann will explain in an entertaining and interesting way how radio is made.

Learning to fly a multicopter - for young and old pilots
Location: Jahnsdorf airfield, Wilhermsdorfer Str. 43, Jahnsdorf

In the event of unsuitable flying weather, the course will be postponed to an alternative date.
Prerequisites: The course is suitable for passionate hobby pilots as well as beginners. Young people and children under the age of 16 can take part in the course with a parent. Learn how to fly your multicopter safely from an experienced pilot and instructor at the Jahnsdorf airfield. You will receive instruction in multicopter flying in accordance with EU drone regulations. A special experience is the sightseeing flight over the airfield with your own device. At the end, the instructor will show his own aerial photographs of Dresden in the café at the airport.

More and more people are finding it important to study their own family history. This course introduces the working methods of family research. The following questions take centre stage: Where do you get information about your own ancestors? How can the research results be meaningfully organised? What tools are available for researching and analysing information? The course familiarises you with the most important sources of family research, deals with genealogical forms of presentation and offers assistance in reading old documents.

Robots in care - opportunity, risk or political vision?

A robot as a carer? The potential is promising: not only does it seem possible to relieve the burden on carers, but also to provide targeted individual care and support for those in need of care, for example by providing entertainment or positively influencing physical, social and cognitive abilities. Critical voices, however, raise ethical and practical questions: Are interpersonal relationships being lost? Are human carers being replaced by machines for cost reasons? The presentation will provide an overview of the current state of research and initial experiences. It presents the opportunities and risks that are currently being discussed in science and aims to sensitise people to the social framework conditions of "care robotics".

Camera Sensitive 2023 - Psychiatry in film

The event will feature the documentary film "Off track - thrown off course by depression" by Andrea Rothenburg. The film will be followed by a panel discussion with experts, sufferers, relatives and professional supporters from various fields of work.
About the film: These could be the best years, but depression has thrown Hanna, Kati, Martin, Popey and Sascha off course. They are confronted with questions about life and face the challenges of finding their individual ways out of depression. Can a young woman who has experienced depression actually have children? Can I break out of my marriage to take a new path? Will I be able to leave my depression behind me through activity and exercise? Will I be able to embark on a new career path despite my illness? Will I ever find a partner for life and get rid of my feeling of loneliness? What strategies work to overcome depression or at least live better with it? The film provides realistic, touching insights into the lives of the protagonists, encouraging viewers and dispelling prejudices.
A project of the Landesverband Gemeindepsychiatrie Sachsen e. V. for more education and exchange about mental illness and to combat stigmatisation and discrimination of mentally ill people. This event is a co-operation between VIP Chemnitz e. V. and the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre.

50 years of the Oberrabenstein game reserve through the ages: nature and species conservation right on the doorstep

The Oberrabenstein game reserve in the Rabenstein Forest has now been in existence for 50 years. The residents are part of a variety of species conservation programmes, which are presented on a tour. Those interested will also learn how they can support the local wildlife themselves - in line with the motto: "Species conservation on your doorstep".

Robots in the operating theatre - the better surgeons?

Robots in the operating theatre are no longer a utopia. Almost one hundred different systems are now established worldwide in almost all surgical disciplines. The lecture will take up the experiences and research of a practitioner at Chemnitz Hospital. Surgeons there have been operating with the innovative Versius robotic system for more than two years and are world leaders in this field. The thoracic surgeons at Chemnitz were the first to operate on the thorax using this system. The lecture will provide an introduction to the topic and will shed light on the medical and technical possibilities as well as the ethical issues. What exactly are robots used for and what are their limitations? What are the advantages of technical support during operations? Is the relationship between doctors and their patients changing? You can discuss these and other questions with the speaker.

Fraud when shopping online, accessing online accounts or viruses and Trojans in your inbox: according to the Digital Barometer 2022, a citizen survey conducted by the German Federal Ministry for Information Security (BSI), around 30 per cent of respondents have already fallen victim to online crime.
At our event, BSI experts will show you just how easy it can be to access other people's data. In addition to live demonstrations of hacker attack scenarios, they will explain the security gaps when using your own online devices. They will also show you how you can use simple tricks to protect your own data from unauthorised access.
The event is part of the "Digital? But secure!" campaign of the Saxon State Chancellery in cooperation with the Saxon adult education centres, the Saxony Consumer Advice Centre, the Federal Office for Information Security and the Saxon Data Protection and Transparency Commissioner.

Critical Walk: Searching for clues - the former Fritz Heckert area and the NSU complex

The neighbourhood walk is dedicated to the architectural, social and political history of the Fritz Heckert area. One thematic focus is on the neighbourhood as a place of residence, networking space and crime scene of the NSU. We will visit the specific places where the NSU network lived and committed crimes and approach the questions of how the NSU network was anchored in Chemnitz and what a locally connected reappraisal might look like.
The "Critical Walk" was developed by the "Open Process" project in collaboration with the Trafo history workshop, the urban sociologist Dominik Intelmann and students and lecturers from the seminar "doing memory - historical social space explorations and remembrance work in the former Fritz Heckert area".
