The ability to learn is closely linked to a networked brain, and this applies equally to children and adults. The 26 Brain-Gym® exercises promote co-operation between the brain, eyes, ears, hands and legs. They can help to make learning easier. At the same time, they can help to organise life processes independently.
The workshop introduces the concept and initial techniques of Brain-Gym®. You will learn how you can use simple movements and touch to support learning and reduce everyday stress. You will also gain an insight into the three dimensions of learning and ideas for supporting children's learning at school.

Emotions are elements of life and important building blocks of the body. But some emotions such as fear, anger, shame or guilt, sadness, envy or jealousy cause stress and therefore not only make us mentally ill, but also physically ill if we do not find the right way to deal with them. What do emotions do in the body? And how can emotions be utilised for a balanced, healthy and happy life?
These questions will be the subject of the course, which will also include time for personal experiences and dialogue.

How the energy transition can succeed without jeopardising Germany as an industrial location

The German economy is currently facing major challenges. One of these is the goal of making the economy climate-neutral by 2045. Although emissions in Germany have already been greatly reduced in recent years, both the installed capacity of renewable energies and the domestic production of hydrogen must increase significantly. In order to create appropriate incentives, the attractiveness of entrepreneurial activity should increase from an economic perspective and government action itself should become more efficient and solution-orientated. At the same time, the interests of Germany as an industrial location must be taken into account.
The presentation deals with options for action that outline the necessary framework conditions for an efficient energy transition from an economic perspective. Christoph M. Schmidt is President of the RWI - Leibniz Institute for Economic Research, Vice President of acatech - National Academy of Science and Engineering and former Chairman of the German Council of Economic Experts.

On the trail of the Stumbling Stones. A walk through the city centre

The crimes of the National Socialist regime also left terrible traces in the city of Chemnitz. In memory of Jewish citizens who once lived in the city and other victims of Nazi tyranny, 330 stumbling stones have now been laid. To mark the 79th anniversary of the re-establishment of the Jewish community in Chemnitz in autumn 1945, we invite you to take a tour along some of the Stolpersteine in the city centre.
The focus is on Chemnitz Jews who lived and worked on Theaterplatz, Antonplatz, Brückenstraße and Theaterstraße. A dignified commemoration is planned in front of their former homes and workplaces. The event will also commemorate the Reichsbanner man Paul Fischer, who was stabbed to death by the SA in February 1933 in front of the former "Hansa-Haus" (now Hotel "An der Oper").
The tour begins in front of the opera house and ends in front of the building at Theaterstraße 40.

The concept of nature has various meanings, the connection between which is not obvious at first. It describes the phenomena of nature, trees and bushes, heaven and earth, but also the physical make-up of humans as something that - in comparison to history - remains the same or only changes very slowly. The term also refers to the nature of a thing, the essence of things. In the case of the band Deichkind, nature is that which is just as it is - without additions, accessories or judgement.
The series explores the concept of nature. Is this connection between the essence of a thing and a certain group of phenomena in a word a coincidence? Is it appropriate? And is it contemporary in the Anthropocene?

The talentCAMPus is an innovative holiday education programme run by the German Adult Education Association for children and young people aged between nine and 14. It is offered for one or more weeks, takes place all day and is free of charge. The special thing about a talentCAMPus is the combination of educational and cultural programmes. Children and young people are encouraged to develop their cultural, intercultural, linguistic, artistic, manual and social skills and are given space to develop their personality at the same time.

On 7 October 2023, Hamas carried out a terrorist attack on Israel of monstrous and unprecedented brutality. Israel then mobilised troops for an offensive in Gaza. But was the military objective of significantly weakening Hamas achieved? And how did the terrorist attack change politics and society in Israel?
One year later, Richard C. Schneider will discuss these questions and analyse and historically classify the latest developments. The long-time Israel correspondent for ARD and SPIEGEL author has lived in Tel Aviv for almost 20 years.

Guided tour of the Kaßberg prison learning and memorial centre

The Kaßberg Prison in Chemnitz is an important memorial to GDR injustice and German division as a former processing centre for the release of prisoners. Most of the more than 33,000 political prisoners who were bought out of prison in the GDR by the federal government between 1962/1963 and 1989 were released from here. The building complex also served as a remand centre for the State Security and previously for the Soviet secret police NKVD/MGB. During the National Socialist era, members of various persecuted groups were imprisoned in the Kaßberg prison.
The learning and memorial site not only depicts the history of the prison building and the release of prisoners, but also gives a face to the countless politically persecuted people with a special look at some of their biographical fates.
The guided tour provides an insight into the permanent exhibition, the history of the site and the learning centre for democracy.

Skateboard course for young people aged 7 to 16

In addition to learning important basics and first tricks, you will hear all about the technical details of skateboarding and the history of this youth culture. An experienced skateboard trainer will help you to master the board in a short space of time.
You can bring your own skateboard and protective clothing (helmet, hand, elbow and knee pads or inline protective clothing) or hire them on site for a one-off fee of 15 euros. The course fee is already reduced.

"We've been at war for a long time!" - This phrase is often heard in connection with cyberspace. This refers to the virtual space that is spanned by global communication networks and links different systems, from the energy supply to banks and our smartphones. Attacks on this (critical) infrastructure are a daily occurrence and affect a wide variety of systems, from the manufacturing industry to hospitals and educational institutions.
The lecture will focus on the technical aspects of where and why cyberspace is vulnerable, what role large corporations play and what countermeasures are necessary from both a technical and legislative perspective. Prof Dr Jochen Schiller is Professor of Computer Engineering at the Free University of Berlin. There he was Dean of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science and Vice President (2007 - 2010). He has been a member of the Scientific Programme Committee for Security Research of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research since 2019.

What actually is resilience? The term resilience is currently used very frequently and in many contexts. It is not always clear what exactly is meant by it. In most cases, the word resilience stands for resistance.
In this workshop, we will approach the topic of resilience and explore the different ways to achieve it with a view to your personal situation. Topics such as self-care, recognising your own limits, resources and self-compassion will be explored and illustrated through small exercises. These insights can be a door opener for individuals to delve deeper into the topic, arouse curiosity for further self-exploration and strengthen personal resilience in everyday life.

Democracy is a natural part of living together and treating each other with respect. Democracy thrives on dialogue, exchange and compromise. The prerequisite for this is to accept other opinions, to perceive them in a fact-orientated manner and to treat them with respect. The open exchange of opinions is a cornerstone of democracy.
It is sometimes difficult to react quickly and appropriately to discriminatory, racist, inhuman or anti-democratic comments in everyday situations. Many people feel overwhelmed in dialogue and shy away from discussion. Anti-democratic tendencies also test the limits of democratic values and coexistence in the centre of society. Whether in everyday life, at work or among friends - many are looking for ways to act. What is a good reaction: ignore it, just leave it, laugh at it or stand up for democratic values and discuss it?
The workshop sheds light on fundamental questions: What does democracy mean? What are recommendations for action to stand up for democratic values? How can democratic coexistence succeed? What is an appropriate response to agitation, marginalisation or radical statements? How can a fair and constructive dialogue succeed?
We invite you to bring practical examples from professional, voluntary or family contexts to the workshop and to take the time for an intensive exchange. Practice-orientated exercises and a wide range of background information will round off the workshop.

The exhibition "The Yellow Star" will be shown from 21 October 2024 to 25 November 2024. Guided tour of the medical history collection at Chemnitz Hospital

During the tour, you will immerse yourself in the history of medicine in Saxony. For more than 40 years, the Küchwaldkrankenhaus has collected instruments, equipment and apparatus from various medical specialities. From ether masks to anaesthesia machines, from rigid bronchoscopes to flexible gastroscopes, you can see and "understand" the equipment during the guided tour.
The historic rooms in the old bathhouse are ideal for a tour. Special attention is paid to devices that were developed in Chemnitz and the surrounding area. The archive and library round off the visit to the collection.

Press and freedom of the press in Poland

In the last few years of the national-conservative PiS government in Poland, many observers feared for the independence of the judiciary and the freedom of the media. Journalists and other media professionals spoke of restrictions, political influence, the closure and concentration of important media houses and growing political polarisation. With the parliamentary elections in autumn 2023 and the victory of the opposition, many were hoping for change and greater liberalisation. Initial initiatives to restructure the media landscape have since been widely discussed.
The lecture will provide an overview of the current debates surrounding the press and press freedom in Poland and shed light on the background. The speaker, Andreas Lamm, works at the European Institute for Press and Media Freedom in Leipzig and has been dealing with the topics of the evening for many years.

Of spools and books - guided tour through the Alte Aktienspinnerei Chemnitz

When it was built in the middle of the 19th century, the Alte Aktienspinnerei Chemnitz was the largest cotton mill in Saxony and an important place in Saxony's industrial history. Since then, the building has not only been used as a spinning mill, but also in a variety of other ways. Since 2020, it has housed the central library and archive of Chemnitz University of Technology.
The building has not only made a lasting impression on the outside since its renovation (2014 to 2020). Inside, too, an impressive ensemble has opened up as a place of learning and research, but also of communication and encounters.
This guided tour invites you to get to know the building, its history and its current use.

Critical Walk: Searching for clues - the former Fritz Heckert area and the NSU complex

The neighbourhood walk is dedicated to the architectural, social and political history of the Fritz Heckert area. One thematic focus is on the neighbourhood as a place of residence, networking area and crime scene of the National Socialist Underground (NSU). During the walk, the specific places where the NSU network lived and committed crimes will be visited. How was the NSU network anchored in Chemnitz? And what can a locally connected reappraisal look like?
The "Critical Walk" was developed by the "Open Process" project in collaboration with the Trafo History Workshop, urban sociologist Dominik Intelmann, students and lecturers from the seminar "Doing Memory - Historical Social Space Explorations and Remembrance Work in the Former Fritz Heckert Area".

What characterises good journalism? A practical view and an invitation to a discussion

Journalism and the media play an important role in democracy. At the same time, they are losing trust. While some suspect that news is controlled - by the government, political parties or lobbyists - others criticise seemingly detached topics where they no longer feel represented.
On this evening, journalist and author Stefan Locke would like to discuss the theory of a "crisis of trust" in journalists and the question of their role in a democracy.
Stefan Locke has been working as the parliamentary correspondent for the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) for Poland, Ukraine and the Baltic states in Warsaw since April 2024. Previously, he was the correspondent for Saxony and Thuringia at the FAZ for many years.
