Neighbourhood help - basic course
Location: Adult education centre in the TIETZ, Moritzstraße 20, course room 4.62

In this course you will learn
- how to care for people in need of care and general supervision, e.g. people with dementia-related disorders, mental disabilities or mental illness,
- relieve carers in the home on an hourly basis,
- provide household-related services,
- provide support in everyday life and care
and thus fulfil the objective stated in Section 45c Paragraph 3a Sentence 1 SGB XI.
The course is recognised by most care insurance companies. Participation is therefore free of charge.
Neighbourhood assistance in accordance with Section 45a SGB XI and the Saxon Care Support Ordinance (SächsPflUVO) may be provided by people of legal age who do not live in the same household as the person being cared for, are not a registered carer in accordance with Section 19 SGB XI and are not related to them by blood or marriage up to the second degree.

National media and newspapers have a broad network of foreign correspondents. They report directly from the region. On this evening, Peter Burghardt from the Süddeutsche Zeitung will report on his work as a US correspondent in Washington, D.C. The political scientist and journalist Peter Burghardt will explain details of his everyday journalistic life and shed light on the political debates in North America. After working as a war reporter for Macedonia and Kosovo, among others, he spent many years as a correspondent for Spain, Portugal and Latin America. He has been working in the USA since September 2022.

A small country with great historical potential, crammed into the mechanisms of orthodox communism for decades. The dawn of a new era brought political and economic upheavals, but at the same time opened the country to the outside world. The course offers atmospheric photographic insights into the beauty of the landscape and its dangers, introduces you to the country and provides practical tips for travelling without a travel agency. The lecture will also cover the possibilities of an unforgettable journey without a plane or long-distance bus as well as exciting episodes that self-determined travelling through the "land of 200,000 bunkers" can offer.

The presentation will show you how innovative software solutions and apps can increase the administration, communication or efficiency of your work. Customised ceramics

Whether as a gift, decoration for the home or for use in the garden: In this ceramics course, you can freely realise your own design ideas. With personalised instruction, you will learn how to create your own ceramic workpiece using the building technique. In the four scheduled sessions, you will create your own blank twice, which will be glazed in the second session after the so-called bisque firing and then become your own small work of art in the final glaze firing. Decorations for the home and garden will be produced. All necessary materials are included in the course fee, all tools are freely available.

People and their highly automated vehicles - lecture

How do people interact with their vehicles and technical systems when driving? Environmental factors and social and psychological issues also play a role in research into autonomous driving. How can the safety and user-friendliness of driving be further increased? And how do people react when driving? Current research from the field of psychology will be presented on this evening.

What does radicalisation mean? - Lecture

How do people become radicalised? This is a complex development in which the radicalisation of attitudes and the radicalisation of violence must be considered in their interaction. Dr Verena Schneider is researching co-radicalisation as a process in which different extreme groups relate to each other, differentiate themselves from each other and mutually reinforce each other. In her lecture, she will also highlight the importance of the social climate for radicalisation processes.

How wine came to California

Today, around 90 per cent of US wines come from California. But how did an experiment become one of the most important wine regions in the world? And what role did Californian vines even play in saving European viticulture after the phylloxera catastrophe? Discover Zinfandel, Sauvignon Blanc and other grape varieties - and find out why even the Rotkäppchen sparkling wine cellar sources a large proportion of its grapes from California. A little wine tasting is of course a must. Let's go to San Francisco!

We invite you to reflect on a fundamental question of philosophy. The phrase "Vita brevis" ("Life [is] short") emphasises the urgency of the appeal "Carpe diem!" ("Seize the day!"). Alfred North Whitehead sees the meaning of life in the endeavour: "firstly to live at all, secondly to live well, thirdly to live better". But it is also about hope and responsibility, about the question of happiness and, of course, about goals that give life meaning.

Nutrition for menstrual problems, endometriosis and adenomyosis

This online programme aims to provide support for women suffering from menstrual cramps, endometriosis and adenomyosis. You will learn in a practical and understandable way which foods require particular caution with regard to symptoms and which foods and behaviours can have a noticeable positive effect on symptoms.
You will also find out what you should bear in mind when changing your diet and how you can proceed step by step. You will receive ideas that you can implement immediately in your everyday life.

Guided tour through the exhibition "Open trial"

The guided tour follows the traces of the National Socialist Underground (NSU). The "Open Trial" exhibition in the Documentation Centre on the NSU complex commemorates the victims of the NSU and sheds light on the background to the crimes. It strengthens the perspective of those affected and takes a critical look at the history of the NSU complex.

Japanese pizza: Okonomiyaki

Okonomiyaki is extremely popular throughout Japan. The only thing it has to do with pizza is that the toppings can be chosen as desired. The dough made from flour, egg and water is initially reminiscent of pancakes, if it weren't for the special ingredients. Okonomiyaki are not baked in the oven, but traditionally fried on a hot griddle. During the course, you will learn a few variations and can be inspired to create your very own.

Ikebana - making your own flower arrangements

Ikebana means arranging flowers and plant parts in such a way that their essence and vitality become visible. In silence and concentration, you will create modern, classical and free arrangements of flowers, branches, twigs or roots and strive for the subtle elegance of the imperfect. Ikebana has been a form of meditation for 1,400 years, accompanied by haikus, meditative texts and music.

vhs-Klimatreff@ZEUX: We visit the Chemnitz materials initiative

We will visit the Chemnitz materials initiative ZEUX together, because protecting the climate also means protecting resources. ZEUX focuses on the recycling of wood, metal, plastic, textiles and technology. Instead of wasting resources, the focus is on upcycling and creative redesign, according to the initiative's website. Improvisational theatre helps you to find new, creative solutions in a short space of time and to find your way spontaneously in unfamiliar situations. This not only helps in everyday "private" life, but also at work and at university.
