The course is aimed at people who want to do something good for their body and soul and take time out to relax. You will practise light physical exercises (gymnastics) and breathing awareness as well as having times of silence while sitting and walking.
The Christian practice of meditation is the basis of the short impulses and spoken instructions. These are formulated and designed in such a way that they are suitable for people of the Christian religion and for all those interested in spirituality.
Please wear comfortable clothing and warm socks if necessary.

Origami - the art of paper folding - combines creativity, calm and concentration. This course will teach you the history and basics. Step by step you will learn the most important folding rules and how to read the instructions. This meditative activity develops attention, fine motor skills and patience. Compensation for expenses, insurance and volunteering agreements will also be discussed. The project "Ehrenamt Inklusiv Chemnitz", which aims to make volunteering more accessible and open, will also be presented.

Japanese cuisine: Sushi

The course introduces the history of Japanese cuisine: vinegar rice was originally just a special method of preserving fish. The rice was not eaten at that time. As the population grew, the Japanese began to create something from the preserved rice. This gave rise to sushi, which evolved over time into increasingly sophisticated dishes. In this course, you will learn how to prepare a small selection of fish bites on flavoured rice in such a way that you can easily follow all the steps at home.
You will also receive in-depth information on the sourcing of products, the historical traditions of Japanese cuisine and the special features of the food culture.

Every two years, the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung's representative "Centre Studies" provide information on the prevalence, development and background of right-wing extremist, misanthropic and anti-democratic attitudes in Germany. The 2025 edition, entitled "The Tense Centre", looks at the normalisation of right-wing extremist positions in times of global uncertainty.
The study identifies key social tipping points and analyses how individual political issues are used as a tool to spread and trivialise far-right positions. On this evening, the scientific survey methods and the results of the study will be presented and discussed.

In this course, you will learn the technical basics of photography and put what you have learnt directly into practice. You will learn how to work creatively with exposure time, aperture, sharpness, focal length and perspective, select the optimum camera mode and utilise the possibilities of system and SLR cameras. You will also discuss your pictures, learn simple tricks for better photos and find out about legal basics such as copyright, freedom of panorama and GDPR.

Syodou - Japanese calligraphy

Japanese calligraphy, "Syodou" is the art of "beautiful writing" with a writing brush. "Syodou was adopted from Chinese calligraphy around the sixth and seventh centuries.
The characters were initially created for practical use. As the culture developed, so did the method of expressing characters aesthetically. In addition, Japanese calligraphy can embellish life in a practical way, enrich the mind with this hobby and express individual beauty. In the learning process, the personality is trained and the feeling is refined.

Dance QiGong in motion: Circles and paths

Dance meets QiGong and Taijiquan. An experience to discover the harmony of flowing movements: Tai Chi, QiGong, the principles of movement theory and a pinch of dance come together in this course. Bike tour: Experience Chemnitz industrial history (by bike)

Chemnitz has a rich industrial history. The bleaching privilege granted in the 14th century led to the development of a very successful textile industry. This was followed in the 19th century by the development of general mechanical engineering and machine tool construction. There are still many reminders of this industrial history in Chemnitz today.
The cycle tour invites you to get a comprehensive picture. It leads through the city centre and over the Sonnenberg.
In bad weather, the tour will take place on foot and using public transport. Participants are responsible for purchasing their own tickets.

The concept of freedom plays a major role in many contemporary political debates. The freedom of individuals in society and politics is discussed in particular when it comes to the question of where the limits of freedom of expression lie. While for some, freedom appears to be little more than an empty phrase or rallying cry, others are searching for the substance of the concept.
The lecture explores these questions and draws on philosophical traditions of freedom. We invite you to join us for a discussion with Dr Philipp Schink. He has been researching the topics of the evening for many years and in 2017 published the collection of texts "Freiheit. Contemporary texts on a philosophical controversy" in 2017.

In politics, language is more than just a question of style. Alongside images, language is a central instrument in democracy for regulating the necessary political dispute. Since ancient times, the study of rhetoric has focussed on how language can be used successfully in politics. This includes the question of how language is used for demagogic purposes, how listeners are manipulated, deceived or overwhelmed.
In the course, linguistic-rhetorical instruments for analysing political debates are taught and tested in practice. The course instructor is a linguist and has been analysing language in politics and the media for many decades.
