"KomproMISSwirtschaft": Why compromises should be the last resort

Compromises are omnipresent. Compromises are made and recognised. But what actually is a compromise? Ultimately, it is an agreement based on mutual concessions. This means that all sides have to give up something in order to reach an agreement. Often a classic "lose-lose" situation.
From coalition decisions to product developments to low sugar jam: compromises can be found everywhere and they are often lazy ones. What sensible alternatives are there to create a "win-win" situation and how can this be achieved? What does this mean in concrete terms?
The lecture presents clever and practicable ideas using entertaining and interesting case studies. This results in impulses for business, society and private life.
Uwe Bauer works as a coach. He has always been interested in politics and follows the often "lazy" compromises in politics. He has gained a wealth of experience with compromises in business and in companies.

When Chemnitz was still called Karl-Marx-Stadt

From 1953 to 1990, Chemnitz was called "Karl-Marx-Stadt". During this period, the city centre, which was almost completely destroyed in the Second World War, was given a new face and even a head: the Karl Marx Monument, the second largest portrait bust in the world. This new face bears the unmistakable features of socialist architecture and is one of the most impressive ensembles of this style. The historical trail explores architectural witnesses of this era and recalls the history of Karl-Marx-Stadt with a twinkle in the eye.

Volunteering in Chemnitz: My start in voluntary work

Personal development, new impulses alongside studies, work or unemployment, compensation from everyday life, the desire for social contacts - there are various reasons for volunteering.
In this event, we would like to show you the various aspects of voluntary work and make it easier for you to decide for or against volunteering. What do you need to consider when volunteering? What volunteering opportunities are there in Chemnitz? And how do I find the right one for me? You are welcome to bring your questions to the course. You will also receive information on expense allowances, insurance and volunteering agreements. This course will also look specifically at ways in which young people (up to the age of 26) can get involved.
This event is a cooperation between the Volunteer Centre at the Caritas Association for Chemnitz and the surrounding area and the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre.

Varieties of compromise - a philosophical perspective

Compromises are not popular, but they are as indispensable in everyday life as they are in politics. This is because conflicting interests and convictions often cannot be reconciled in principle. It is then sensible to agree to a non-violent and jointly negotiated "second-best solution" - a compromise.
Véronique Zanetti formulates philosophical analyses in her book "Varieties of Compromise". Using numerous examples, she shows how different types of compromise can be found in individual and social decision-making processes, in politics, morality and law. A philosophical journey through the world of compromise. The author is Professor of Political Philosophy at Bielefeld University.

Europe on our doorstep - a tour of European Chemnitz

At this event, you will discover how the European Union (EU) characterises and enriches everyday life in Chemnitz. During a keynote speech, you will learn a lot of interesting facts about the EU's fundamental freedoms, such as the free movement of people and goods, and about EU policies in the areas of consumer protection and environmental protection. The question of how EU funding programmes directly affect Chemnitz will also be addressed. Specific examples - from playgrounds and schools to subsidised projects - will be used to illustrate what the EU makes possible. A tour will conclude with visits to individual projects in the city that show how close Europe really is.

Compromise or governing through: Which is better, and how can it be achieved?

This event will look at compromises from a political and political science perspective. Politics in Germany is characterised by compromises. Political disputes in particular regularly demonstrate how difficult it sometimes is to find compromises. Finding compromises can involve disputes, at the end of which, in many cases, nobody is satisfied with the result. However, regardless of the current government, compromises are everywhere: in other coalition governments, between the Bundestag and Bundesrat, between different states at EU level, in local authorities and in numerous other places.
Many people are concerned with the question of whether a compromise is necessary and whether there are alternatives. How are other countries organised in this respect? What is good about compromise, what is bad? What adjustments need to be made in order to achieve better solutions?
Political scientist Eric Linhart, holder of the Chair of Political Systems at Chemnitz University of Technology, will explore these questions.

¿Imperfecto o Indefinido?

These two past tenses in the Spanish language often cause a lot of confusion and doubt when learning. The aim of this course is to explain and consolidate the use of these tenses. With the help of examples and exercises, you will learn in which situations which form is used.
The prerequisite for participation in the course is at least active knowledge of level A2.
