In this course, you will learn about the most important metabolic types and find out which diet and lifestyle choices can be derived from them. You can also find out your own individual metabolic type. The recommendations based on your type are not only extremely effective, but also very easy to implement in everyday life.

This course is about conscious contact with your own body and enjoying slowness and deceleration through to deep relaxation. It playfully combines elements of yin yoga and bodywork, progressive muscle relaxation and autogenic training. Conscious movement and awareness of one's own body can help to strengthen personal resilience, reduce everyday stress and activate the immune system. The course promotes relaxation and aims to improve awareness of your own body.

Insect diversity for Chemnitz. The iNUVERSUMM introduces itself

Protecting insect biodiversity should be one of our most important tasks at the moment in view of the biodiversity crisis. Projects such as "iNUVERSUMM - Space and Time for Insects" show how this can be realised in concrete terms with various measures, especially in the city.
On this day, BUND Chemnitz, project partner of iNUVERSUMM, will provide insights into the work of the project, suggestions for measures that everyone can implement and an outlook on how positively our city can change if we tackle this together.
The event is a co-operation between the BUND Regional Group Chemnitz, the Botanical Garden and the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre.

Punk in the GDR - a cry for freedom or just a copy of the West? Reading and discussion with Geralf Pochop

This evening explores the history of the punk movement in the GDR. Why did colourful outsiders, protruding hair and torn clothes put the Stasi on full blast? Was it about the struggle between the individual and the collective? What remains of this today? Geralf Pochop (born 1964 in Halle) became a fan of the punk movement at the age of 13 and thus an outsider. The music and punk fashion as an antithesis to bourgeois normality
fascinate him. He begins to attend punk concerts in his neighbourhood, dyes his hair, wears a mohawk and ripped jeans. This made him stand out in the largely grey GDR society. For the SED, punk with its anarchy and individuality was a declaration of war, a rebellion against the state. For the party functionaries, punk in the GDR was a copy of the decadent West.
Pochop, whose motives were initially completely apolitical, became more and more outspoken, came into conflict with the system, experienced intimidation and brutal violence at the hands of the state security forces: he was arrested for the first time in 1983. In 1986, the State Security tried to recruit him as an unofficial collaborator (IM). Pochop refused and applied to leave the country. In 1987, he was sent to prison for the second time. After his imprisonment, Pochop became politically active. In May 1989, his application to leave the country was finally approved and he was able to move to West Germany.
Today, Geralf Pochop lives in Torgau. In his book "Untergrund war Strategie - Punk in der DDR zwischen Rebellion und Repression", which he will present on this evening, he describes his experiences.
The event is a cooperation between the Saxon State Centre for Political Education, the Lern- und Gedenkort Kaßberg-Gefängnis e. V., the Institute of Political Science at Chemnitz University of Technology and the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre as part of the "Kontrovers vor Ort" project.
It marks the start of a three-part series of events. The series is co-financed with the kind support of the Saxon State Commissioner for the Reappraisal of the SED Dictatorship.

Donald Trump and populism in the USA

Donald Trump is repeatedly labelled a populist. It is not at all clear what this term actually means. In current usage, it is used indiscriminately to describe completely divergent political attitudes. However, there was a movement in the USA around 1900 that described itself as populist and is often cited as the model for all current populists.
The online lecture explores the question of whether this is justified or whether Trump is a political phenomenon that has little or nothing to do with traditional populism.
The speaker, Michael Hochgeschwender, is Professor of North American Cultural History, Empirical Cultural Research and Cultural Anthropology at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München.

Polish film evening: Strajk - The Heroine of Gdansk (2007). Film screening and discussion

The focus of the evening is the film "Strajk - The Heroine of Gdansk". It shows the biography of Anna Walentynowicz, a crane operator at the Lenin Shipyard in Gdansk. Her dismissal in the summer of 1980 triggered the strikes that eventually led to the formation of "Solidarnosc", the first free trade union in the communist Eastern bloc.
Director Volker Schlöndorff addresses a German and international audience to remind them that the "Polish summer of 1980" heralded the fall of communist rule in the Eastern Bloc.
The introductory lecture will shed light on the origins and significance of "Solidarnosc" in the present day. After the film, we invite you to discuss its background.

Speaking for democracy - communication training against right-wing slogans and hostility to democracy (basic training)

Discrimination is part of everyday life. People of a different skin colour, sexual orientation or religion are repeatedly subjected to hostility, exclusion and condescending comments. But people who are politically active and campaign for democracy are also verbally attacked. Do we have to accept this? No!
In this communication training course, you will work together to develop simple methods for responding to and countering anti-democratic statements and right-wing slogans. You will learn about the mechanisms of prejudice and discrimination, look at your own attitude and discuss ways and means of dealing with inhuman statements and attitudes. You will learn how to represent your point of view confidently - e.g. to club members, colleagues or family members - and thus speak out in favour of democracy in your professional environment and your personal everyday life. The programme is aimed at all interested parties. It is also open to people who are themselves affected by hostility as well as those who are not affected but do not want to stand by and do nothing.

Terra Preta: home-made fertile soil for the garden

Terra Preta - the black earth of the Indians - is a way of supplying the soil in the garden with "stable" fertiliser. It can be used to build up a fertile perennial humus layer that not only benefits soil health and plant growth. It also helps to bind climate-relevant carbon dioxide. After a brief theoretical introduction to the history, use and production of Terra Preta, this soil will be produced together in the course for the Knappteichgarten project.
The event is a co-operation between the "Unser Knappteich" project group and the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre. It is co-financed by tax funds on the basis of the budget approved by the Saxon state parliament.
Note: The best way to get to the citizens' garden is to take bus 31 and get off at the Scharnhorststraße stop. From there, take the entrance between the Montessori school and the allotment garden "Zur Vogelweid".

Tito - the eternal partisan

Josip Broz Tito was a visionary and a pragmatist, a strategist and a doer. During the Second World War, he and his partisans liberated Yugoslavia from German occupation under their own steam. It was the role in which he was completely at ease with himself and which legitimised his many years of rule. Without the eternal partisan, Yugoslavia would probably no longer have existed after the Second World War. But Tito's Yugoslavia barely survived its creator for a decade. What followed was an outbreak of violence the likes of which Europe had not seen since the Second World War. At his death, Tito was regarded as an internationally recognised statesman. Today, many consider him a brutal dictator. But what was he really like?
In her lecture, Marie-Janine Calic reveals the historical person behind the legends and tells the story of an adventurous life that reflects the rise and fall of Yugoslavia.
Marie-Janine Calic is Professor of Eastern and South-Eastern European History at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. In the winter semester 2023/24, she will be conducting research at the Center for European Studies at Harvard. Her books have been published by C. H. Beck: "Geschichte Jugoslawiens" (2020), "Südosteuropa" (2019) and "Tito" (2022).

On the current state of democracy in Poland

Many observers associate the parliamentary elections in Poland on 15 October 2023 with a fundamental political change of course, which, however, faces great difficulties in its implementation. Some of the foundations of democracy will have to be fought for anew, and against the resistance of the former ruling party. Poland's role in the European Union and its relationship with neighbouring Germany are also up for discussion. We invite you to discuss the developments in Poland after the election and the current situation.
The political scientist Prof Dr Stefan Garsztecki will explain and justify his current assessments in his lecture. The speaker teaches at Chemnitz University of Technology and has been researching the topics of the evening for many years.
