Grace, beauty, strength, vitality and firmness adorn the body through yoga (Yoga Sútra, III.47). With beneficial movement, mindfulness and meditation exercises, you will learn various ways to improve your flexibility, ability to relax and deal with stress. You will learn the basic principles of Hatha Yoga online and find out how you can find more serenity and recharge your batteries through gently guided relaxation, stretching and concentration exercises.

Microsoft PowerPoint - presenting to the point
Event: TIETZ, VHS room display or online
Participation: 120 euros
With PowerPoint, lectures and presentations can be supported visually and audibly in order to present their content in an impressive and memorable way. This course gives you the opportunity to create your first presentation step by step. You will learn the first steps with PowerPoint, i.e. how to work with presentations, create and design drawing objects and use organisational charts and diagrams effectively.
This course is an exchange rate. Depending on the current coronavirus situation, it will take place either at the VHS Chemnitz or online.

Healthier living with Ayurveda

On this evening, we will look at the Indian teachings of a long and healthy life and scrutinise the value of possible everyday rituals that can be easily integrated into our accelerated daily lives, even in the 21st century. The philosophy of Ayurveda, with its pillars of exercise, nutrition, massages, medicinal herbs and medicine, will be clearly explained using the three doshas (constitutional types). You will learn more about the five elements,
body tissues and energy channels. You will be amazed at how easy it is to do something more consciously for yourself and your environment.

High sensitivity - basic lecture

Is this world sometimes too loud, too fast, too superficial for you too? Do you sometimes just want to get out? Then you may be highly sensitive. According to estimates, this affects around 15 to 20 per cent of the population. High sensitivity is not a diagnosis, but an innate personality trait. Highly sensitive people often have a keen sense of perception. At the same time, they are flooded with sensory stimuli more quickly than other people. They therefore need more opportunities to withdraw.
This lecture explains high sensitivity from a scientific perspective. You will learn what is associated with high sensitivity as a personality trait and what consequences it can have for your health.

Publishing photos - What you need to know about copyright and co.

Photos are quickly taken and published on social networks. But there is a risk of trouble if other people are depicted or other people's photos are published. What should you know before publishing? What exceptions restrict the so-called "right to one's own image" and copyright? The event explains these questions and raises awareness of how to handle photos carefully.
The event is aimed at parents and teachers who want to sensitise children to these issues.

Scams and cost traps on the internet: What parents should know

At the end of the month, a large amount from an unknown provider appears on your mobile phone bill? Your parents' credit card bill suddenly contains large sums for the app store? Or have you received a debt collection letter for using a streaming service?
These are often signs that children and young people have bought related content, coins or equipment while surfing or playing online or have accidentally taken out a subscription. How this happens and how users and parents can protect themselves from scams and cost traps in future will be explained at this event by experts from the Saxony Consumer Advice Centre.

In our everyday consciousness, happiness usually appears to us as something that we have little control over. It happens to us through favourable external circumstances, and then we are lucky. The opposite is true of bad luck.
But what would it be like if we could choose our luck? If it really depended on ourselves whether we create and experience happiness? In this lecture by Buddhist teacher Yoshiharu Matsuno, you will learn how we can make ourselves the starting point of our lives and use every situation to create happiness.

Hindi/Urdu - introductory course A1

In this introductory course you will learn the Indian language Hindi. Urdu is also very similar. After the course you will be able to introduce yourself and know some basic vocabulary. You will also have practised pronunciation. The focus is on the spoken language. The original script is not taught. The teacher uses the now very common Latin script. The course is designed to help anyone who is undecided or curious to familiarise themselves with the language. If enough people are interested, a systematic basic course can follow.

Religion and Nation in the USA

Despite the constitutional separation of church and state, religions have shaped the development of the USA from the very beginning. Neither the American Revolution nor the establishment of the new republic would have been conceivable without the involvement of evangelical and liberal Protestants. From the 1850s onwards, a politically increasingly important Catholic minority was added. The lecture traces the historical significance of the various Christian religious communities and also looks at their current role.
Michael Hochgeschwender is Professor of North American Cultural History at LMU Munich and is one of the best experts on the USA. He recently published "The American Revolution: Birth of a Nation" with C. H. Beck.
This event is part of the series "vhs.wissen live - the digital science programme" as a cooperation between the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre and the Erding and SüdOst Adult Education Centres in the district of Munich.

"I'll do it with my left hand!" - recognising and encouraging children's dexterity

The so-called retraining of children from genetic left-handers to pseudo-right-handers is also an issue in our society. In an informative practical presentation, the course offers the latest scientific findings on the genetic possibility of being left- or right-handed. What health consequences can arise from a lack of handedness from infancy to adulthood? You will receive answers to these and other questions during the course.

Icelandic - Virtual (language) journey to Iceland

On our journey along the Ring Road you will learn interesting and unusual facts about the culture and language of the Icelanders.
