The body has always been an expression and reflection of the state of society. With its desires and fears, hopes and blockages, its need for regulation and unlocking, it represents what is happening in society as a whole. A lot has to be expressed through the body: Power, powerlessness, identity, wishes and desires, conformity and resistance. What happens in the social field of tension between embodiment and disembodiment will be discussed in this Café Philo. No prior (philosophical) knowledge is required. The focus is on dialogue as a combination of experience, science and theory.
Café Philo is a co-operation between the Freie Institut für Bildung e. V. and the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre.

Basic course on the autism spectrum

All people perceive the world in their own unique way. This course will focus on the perception of people on the autism spectrum. It will provide an insight into the special perception and information processing and the resulting consequences for everyday life. The aim is to develop an understanding of the experience and associated behaviour of people with autism.
The theoretical basics as well as strengths and potentials are vividly supplemented by practical examples. There will be an opportunity to ask specific questions and engage in dialogue.

Accompanying children in life - as family mentors or foster parents

Registration is possible until 12 noon on the day of the event. The access link will be sent by e-mail at least 3 hours before the start of the event.
Many families would like to have individual support for their children from an additional carer in order to find relief in everyday life. These families are to be strengthened by providing them with volunteer family mentors. As a family mentor, you can be a companion by regularly giving a child time to discover the world together through age- and child-appropriate activities.
For a variety of reasons, many girls and boys cannot grow up in their own family. They need a new safe place where they can be lovingly cared for. A foster family could be such a place of security. In order for these children to find a good home, either temporarily or permanently, it is important that there are enough foster families available. Unfortunately, there are too few foster parents for this demanding task in Chemnitz.
We would like to encourage and support people to open their hearts and their homes to a foster child. Can you imagine taking in a stranger's child and helping them grow up as a foster parent?
In this event, you will receive comprehensive information about the path, the requirements and the task of being a volunteer family mentor and foster parent.
This event is a co-operation between the Caritasverband für Chemnitz und Umgebung e. V. and the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre.

Exhibition opening to mark the founding of the youth art school

The photographer Franziska Kurz shows pictures from her home in Brandenburg - completely natural and undisguised. On display are impressive and true-to-life snapshots of people and quiet scenes. These are pictures that radiate their lively tranquillity to the viewer.
The vernissage will be accompanied musically by the one-woman band Jens Ausderwäsche.
During the exhibition opening, there will be an opportunity for lively discussions and a small snack.
About Franziska Kurz: After training as a photo-media laboratory assistant and photographer, she spent two years as photographic assistant to the renowned Dresden art photographer Werner Lieberknecht. This was followed by a degree in media communication at Chemnitz University of Technology. Since graduating in 2013, Franziska Kurz has been working as a freelance photographer, designer and project assistant, giving courses and workshops. In collaboration with the adult education centre, she developed the concept for the photography subject profile at the Chemnitz Youth Art School. Franziska Kurz will lead the photography profile class here from March 2024.

Kick-off day for the founding of the youth art school
Location: Chemnitz Adult Education Centre at TIETZ, Moritzstraße 20, 4th floor, rear atrium

Before classes start at the youth art school on 4 March 2024, the adult education centre invites you to a kick-off day at the TIETZ. During the seven-hour event, interested young people will have the opportunity to get a vivid impression of the teaching and the lecturers at the centre.
There will be practical workshops for drawing, printmaking, collage, photography, film, textile design and spoken word poetry. The workshops will be held in a loop of five 45-minute rounds. Starting times are 11am, 12pm, 2pm, 3pm and 4pm. Of course, there will also be plenty of opportunity to ask questions.
The kick-off day of the youth art school will be organised by future teachers Lavinia Chianello (drawing), Kathi Halama (fashion and design), Alina Herzau (collages), Franziska Kurz (photography), Jesse James LaFleur (spoken word), Thorsten Neundorf (film) and Silvio Zesch (printmaking).
A relaxed and creative atmosphere as well as drinks and a buffet will be provided.
