In professional contact with people, protégés, colleagues or superiors, dialogue is an important
colleagues or superiors, dialogue is an important element in expressing one's own concerns and understanding the intentions of others. Appreciative communication is a secure basis for making things happen together, resolving conflicts and ultimately always strengthening relationships. In non-violent communication (NVC) according to Marshall B. Rosenberg, the method is less important than the attitude with which conversations and meetings are conducted.
The course provides an introduction to the NVC method with a special focus on the professional context. Practical exercise situations offer an initial application - always with reference to everyday working life and personal experience. The skills for peaceful connection can not only be developed during the course, but also grow and strengthen through regular practice in everyday (professional) life.

The main contents of the course are

  • the basic attitude of non-violent communication and its image of humanity
  • the concept of "need" as the central key to appreciative communication
  • the components of the "four steps" as a framework for any communication process
  • sincere self-expression
  • empathic listening to the opinion of the other person
  • the joy of contributing to peaceful coexistence

Cybergrooming - Sexual harassment on the internet

Media are an integral part of the lives of children and young people. Social networks in particular offer adolescents opportunities for self-expression and the chance to make new contacts and maintain existing relationships. At the same time, it is becoming increasingly easy for perpetrators in the digital space to initiate contacts and commit sexual violence.
This event will explain the methods that can be used to sensitise children and young people to the topic and encourage them to use media responsibly. In the course of this, help options, child-appropriate offers and technical safety settings will be presented. The online seminar will be very practical, so please have a mobile device ready.

Shortage of goods in retail, long delivery times and rising prices - the year 2022 has a lot in store. Prof Dr Wanja Wellbrock teaches Procurement Management and International Logistics at Heilbronn University of Applied Sciences. At the event, he will discuss the causes and correlations of the shortage of goods in the consumer sector as well as foreseeable developments. Afterwards, he would like to discuss with interested parties whether the current situation could also be an opportunity for greater sustainability and consumer awareness.

Right-wing arguments, fake news and hate speech on social networks are constantly on the rise. It is more important than ever to challenge right-wing demagoguery. Arguing online is therefore no longer "sofa activism". The course provides an introduction to online courage and presents the communication and action options available. Participants raise their awareness and can try out the counter-strategies live.
The event is a cooperation between GEGENARGUMENT and the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre.

Digital media are a source of great fascination and offer many opportunities. However, more and more people are speaking out who are no longer able to control their own media consumption.
In fact, digital media appear to be particularly helpful for young people in coping with individual developmental tasks. Virtual space is more than a second reality. It adds a virtual component to the analogue space. This is why everyone who has contact with young people should approach this virtual space and familiarise themselves with it as part of young people's lives. What makes digital content so appealing? What can be done to restore or maintain the digital balance?
The event will address these key issues in an inspiring way.

3. Species Conservation Day: How can we help the white storks of Chemnitz?

In recent years, the Chemnitz districts of Wittgensdorf and Grüna have become traditional breeding grounds for white storks. In previous years, two to three young storks were successfully raised in each eyrie. This year, too, three young storks hatched in Wittgensdorf and four in Grüna. However, unlike in previous years, the storks are hardly finding any food due to the persistently dry weather. They often have to travel unusually far from the eyrie and take long flights to find food for their young. If the white storks are to have a permanent home in Chemnitz, it is essential to improve the food supply. An important contribution is the preservation and development of species-rich wet grassland near the nests. The species conservation conference on the white stork will focus on the issues and concerns of white stork conservation in the city. What sounds so self-evident in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 1948 is still not a reality for countless people around the world today. On this evening, Angelika Nußberger vividly describes the history of human rights, their philosophical foundations and the current debates: Is there a human right to peace and environmental protection? How universal are the rights? And to what extent can human rights courts determine the legislation of individual states?
Prof Dr Angelika Nußberger is a German legal scholar and Slavicist. She has held the Chair of Constitutional Law, International Law and Comparative Law at the University of Cologne since 2002. She was a judge at the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) from 2011 to 2020 and Vice-President from 2017 to 2019
