The state dam administration - shaping water supply for the future

The lecture explores the origin of the water collected in reservoirs. The focus is on the daily work of the state dam administration. Its sovereign tasks as a state-owned enterprise of the Free State of Saxony include the provision of water, water maintenance and flood protection. The dams and their management tasks in Central Saxony and the Erzgebirgskreis district are presented using the example of the Freiberger Mulde/Zschopau operation. At the same time, you will receive an overview of the special requirements for nature and water protection, the preservation of historical facilities as a world cultural heritage site and the effects of the ongoing drought.

High sensitivity - basic lecture

Is this world sometimes too loud, too fast, too superficial for you too? Do you sometimes just want to switch off? Then you may be highly sensitive. According to estimates, this affects around 15 to 20 per cent of the population. High sensitivity is not a diagnosis, but an innate personality trait. Highly sensitive people often have a keen sense of perception. At the same time, they are flooded with sensory stimuli more quickly than other people. They therefore need more opportunities to withdraw.

This lecture explains high sensitivity from a scientific perspective. You will learn what is associated with high sensitivity as a personality trait and what consequences it can have for your health.

Eva Perón - An Argentinian Icon

Peronism still characterises Argentina today. Its most famous representative, Eva Perón, known to her fans as "Evita", is still present in the collective memory of the country and beyond. The musical "Evita" by Andrew Lloyd Webber has contributed to this. It depicts a power-hungry, authoritarian president's wife who will walk over dead bodies for her career. Her fans, on the other hand - and they include the current Vice President of Argentina, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner - defend Eva Perón. She was the "mother of the poor" and "martyr of the oppressed and the first feminist in a conservative country" and was able to achieve women's suffrage.

The lecture by historian Ursula Prutsch looks at the rise of Argentinian Eva Perón from "Cinderella" to one of the most influential women of her time. He explains what makes Eva Perón so fascinating, why she was so hated by her opponents and which myth lives on to this day.

Prof Dr Ursula Prutsch teaches US and Latin American history at LMU Munich. Among other things, she wrote a biography of Eva Perón, which was published by C.H. Beck.

This event is part of the series "vhs.wissen live - the digital science programme" as a cooperation between the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre and the Erding and SüdOst Adult Education Centres in the district of Munich.

Running on fumes? E-mobility with hydrogen and fuel cells

Politics, society and the automotive industry are looking for new and sustainable mobility concepts. The greatest potential is seen in electromobility. The trend towards battery-powered electric vehicles is currently growing, but not towards fuel cell vehicles. It can be seen that the performance and comfort features of conventional cars can only be transferred to electric vehicles to a limited extent using the battery technologies available today. If long ranges, short refuelling times, heating in the cold season and air conditioning at high ambient temperatures are required, the fuel cell (powered by hydrogen) can meet these requirements much better.

The lecture outlines the current debates on the mobility of the future and presents a sustainable technology with hydrogen and fuel cells.

This event is a co-operation between the Chair of Alternative Vehicle Drives at Chemnitz University of Technology and the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre.

Games are inspiring more and more children and young people. Adults and parents in particular are often perplexed and sceptical about the fascination of digital game worlds. This course clarifies various questions: What exactly is this fascination? What types of games are there? What's the deal with in-app purchases and microtransactions? Which games are suitable for which age group and what can you perhaps even learn with the help of games?

This event is a cooperation between SAEK Chemnitz and the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre as part of the "medienkundig" course series.

The future is renewable: How can a sustainable energy transition succeed?

Europe and Germany have set themselves ambitious climate protection targets: by the middle of the century at the latest, we should live in a climate-neutral way and be supplied by renewable energies. But can the sun and wind even meet our energy needs? What will future energy landscapes look like? What are the effects of the energy transition on our society? What consequences will it have for the development of jobs in Germany, for example?

The evening will focus on all questions relating to the energy transition. The presentation will provide insights into the expansion of renewable energies. Join the discussion on how a socially just and sustainable energy transition can succeed.
