Around 25 per cent of people in Germany are permanently or temporarily restricted in their mobility. In some federal states and regions, such as Saxony and the city of Chemnitz, this figure can be even higher.
It is important for them to find their way around when using public transport. Many questions arise: How do I read route maps? How do I get a ticket? How do I use mobility apps and digital information? And where can I find barrier-free access to local public transport? What do I do if I have difficulties and who do I turn to?
The event is aimed at senior citizens and people with limited mobility.

Touch typing on the computer: the efficient ten-finger technique

Mastering ten-finger typing makes working on the computer much easier, for example when using Office applications. Learn to use the keyboard quickly and effectively with different senses. The course content includes learning the ten-finger touch typing system without setting a minimum number of keystrokes, learning how to switch between keys and the numeric keypad as well as how to use the keyboard with confidence.
The textbook is included in the course fee.

Petra Weise was born in Freiberg in 1954 and grew up in a sheltered environment in the former GDR. When her daughter was born with a rare blood disorder, she learnt about the true system of the SED and made a momentous decision for her family. In the summer of 1980, the family tried to flee to Yugoslavia via Bulgaria. The escape attempt fails, Petra Weise is arrested and spends a year in prison in Hoheneck. On this evening, Petra Weise will read from her biography "Half a Life". We invite you to come and talk to her.

Thanks to preventive care and high-quality dentures, more teeth last longer in old age. This is great progress and at the same time an opportunity. The other side of the coin is that the spaces between teeth become larger, teeth become longer and fine motor skills for dental care deteriorate. In addition, many medications favour dry mouth.
The course provides a compact overview of these topics: What changes and diseases occur in the oral cavity from the age of 60? How do you clean natural teeth, crowns, bridges, implants and partial and full dentures thoroughly and in a way that is suitable for everyday use? What influence do diet and medication have on dental health?

How did Germany deal with its responsibility after 1945? The event sheds light on suppression, relativisation and the consequences for today's culture of remembrance. On this evening, long-time journalist and author Helmut Ortner will present essays and reports that were published in February 2026 in the book "Gnadenlos Deutsch". In it, he makes a plea against any trivialisation and relativisation of the National Socialist past and the Holocaust. At the same time, he formulates an obligation to remember.

After Earth, Mars is probably the most explored planet in the solar system. Numerous probes have already explored it and ten have successfully landed there. The next step for research is a so-called sample return mission: a mission that brings rocks from Mars back to Earth to be analysed. Whether as a gift, decoration for the home or for use in the garden: In this ceramics course you can freely realise your own design ideas. With personalised instruction, you will learn how to create your own ceramic workpiece using the building technique. In the four scheduled sessions, you will create your own blank twice, which will be glazed in the second session after the so-called bisque firing and then become your own small work of art in the final glaze firing. In autumn 2025, the volume "Der große Schock. East Germans tell of the consequences of the Treuhand policy" by Katrin Rohnstock. In it, people who experienced the profound upheavals in East Germany after 1990 have their say. In the book, former employees from five East German regions talk about how they experienced the collapse of entire industries, the closure of their businesses and the loss of familiar living environments. The stories were collected and written down in storytelling salons in 2023 and 2024. The editor Katrin Rohnstock uses them to visualise experiences that have often remained unspoken for decades.
Former employees of the "Fritz Heckert" mechanical engineering combine will also have their say on this evening. We invite you to share your own experiences.

Punk women and the GDR. Reading and discussion

"Being a punk was a provocation in itself. But to walk around like that as a girl was probably a double breach of taboo, something like a sacrilege in the GDR's understanding of real socialism," says Nancy, one of the protagonists in the book "Tanz auf dem Vulkan. Resistant Punk Women in the GDR" by Geralf Pochop. On this evening, the author will present the book and would like to discuss how GDR society reacted to non-conformist women.
In the book, 23 women talk about their experiences with repression, imprisonment and youth work centres - and about the consequences that can still be felt today. Geralf Pochop encouraged his female companions at the time to make the female side of the punk movement in the GDR visible. Kim will talk about her experiences this evening. Born in 1964, Kim was the first female punk in Karl-Marx-Stadt. The State Security labelled her a "punk inspirer of a negative-decadent youth association" and opened the "Park" operational case. Hundreds of pages can now be read about how the State Security tried to fight them and persuade them to leave the country. Last but not least, they tried to
Kim's open behaviour as a lesbian woman and to discriminate against her. Kim left the GDR in 1985.
