Additional location for family sports Sunday

Opening of the third location for the "Open Sports Sunday for Families" on 7 April, from 9.30 to 11.30 am, sports hall of the Dr. Salvador Allende Primary School

On Sunday, 7 April, from 9.30 to 11.30 a.m., the third location of the "Open Sports Sunday for Families" project will open in the sports hall of the Dr Salvador Allende Primary School, 279 Usti nad Labem Street. Interested families are cordially invited to get to know the programme and try it out right away. In addition to the exercise programme, there will also be delicious, healthy smoothies with the smoothie bike from the Office for Health and Prevention at the opening. The "Open Sports Sunday for Families" is a project organised by the Office for Health and Prevention, the City Sports Association and Techniker Krankenkasse Chemnitz.

Katja Uhlemann, Head of the Office for Health and Prevention, is delighted with the many years of successful collaboration between the partners: "It's a wonderful offer that is taken up by many Chemnitz families. Teaching children and their parents to enjoy exercise in a fun way lays an important foundation for a healthy lifestyle. You don't need any prior knowledge or expensive equipment to take part, you can just join in."

Alexander Krauß, Head of the Saxony regional office of Techniker Krankenkasse: "Sport keeps you healthy - young and old! Unfortunately, many children who are not currently in a sports club don't get much exercise in their everyday lives. That's why we are supporting this prevention programme with 215,000 euros. It's also perfect for families to do something together at the weekend, do something for their well-being and have fun at the same time."

Daniel Fugmann, Managing Director of the Chemnitz City Sports Association, adds: "For many children and families, there are various obstacles that make it difficult to join a sports club. We want to counter this with our programme, generate enthusiasm and contribute to an active lifestyle in families. The 2,800 children who have taken part since 2022 speak volumes about the need for this project in our city."

The project was launched in spring 2022 in the sports hall at Luisenschule. Since March 2023, the second location in the gymnasium of the Vocational School Centre for Business, Lutherstraße, has also been used by numerous families.

The "Open Sports Sunday for Families" now takes place weekly at all three locations and is aimed at children, young people and their parents. Participation is free of charge and no pre-booking is required.
