Additional funds distributed for culture
With the adoption of the 2015/2016 double budget by the state government, a total of five million euros more per year is available for funding in accordance with the Saxon Cultural Areas Act. According to a legally stipulated distribution key, the Chemnitz urban cultural area will receive an additional share of around 668,000 euros for the maintenance and promotion of cultural facilities and measures in 2015.
A further 266,600 euros will be made available by the Free State in 2015 for investments in cultural institutions and to secure and support structural measures in the cultural sector.
With the submission B-139/2015/1, the City Council decided on the acceptance of the additional funds and their rough allocation to specific budget areas. It is planned to allocate the additional cultural area funds equally to the municipal theatre and independent culture. Municipal and independent cultural institutions are also to benefit from the additional investment funds.
The Culture Committee will decide on the specific allocation of funds to cultural institutions and associations on 16 July 2015. The administration has prepared corresponding proposals for both the additional cultural area funds and the investment reinforcement funds.
