Additional funds approved for relocation of the bus station
At its meeting today, the city council approved additional funding for the planned relocation of the bus station. The total costs amount to around €10.96 million and are therefore around €2.6 million higher than estimated in the 2019/2020 and subsequent budgets.
An application for funding was submitted, which includes a funding rate of 75 per cent for the eligible expenditure. In order to cover the required share of own funds, an additional requirement of 1.7 million euros is necessary, which must be proven to the funding provider. Only then can the funding application be finalised. The additional funds come from general key allocations from the Free State as well as rescheduling within the civil engineering department, among other things because the construction of the Küchwald-Wüstenbrand cycle path has been delayed due to unresolved issues and further investigations into the Neefestraße bridge at the entrance to Neefepark will not allow construction work to begin until 2023 at the earliest. The planned long-distance bus terminal on Dresdner Strasse will also be built later.
The construction decision will be submitted for approval by the city council in the second half of 2021 once funding has been secured. This will then include the specific construction schedule. Six bus platforms for regional transport are to be built on the current forecourt of the main railway station. The parking spaces for taxis and car sharing providers will also be reorganised. Some car parks will be equipped with charging points for electric vehicles and there will also be bicycle parking spaces.
