Additional equipment requirements for schools and after-school care centres
At its meeting today, the City Council decided to provide additional funding of around €500,000 in the 2018 budget year for additional equipment requirements for schools and after-school centres.
Due to the current enrolment figures and the forecast number of pupils, additional space is required in the current year and in the following years.
Before new school buildings are built, dual utilisation of classrooms and after-school care rooms in primary schools is a viable alternative during the transition period. The dual-use rooms should be equipped with flexible and mobile furniture.
Around 274,000 euros will be made available for around 50 rooms at municipal primary schools.
It will also be necessary to set up additional classrooms at some schools in the short term. For example, additional classrooms will be rented for the Untere Luisenschule (secondary school). In addition, parts of the Philippstraße 20 school building will be used and the 3rd floor of the Baumgartenschule (primary school) in Grüna will be extended to create additional classrooms. A total of around 173,000 euros will be made available from the current budget for the refurbishment of all these additional classrooms. Mittelbach primary school also needs replacement classroom furniture, as the old furniture is worn out after several moves due to the complete refurbishment. Funds totalling 50,000 euros have been budgeted for this.
As the implementation must take place this year, with the start of the new school year 2018/19, funding is absolutely necessary in the current financial year.
