Action weeks on climate protection and sustainability
City of Chemnitz takes part in Climate Adaptation Week for the first time
In the week from 18 to 22 September, the city of Chemnitz is participating for the first time in the Climate Adaptation Week organised by the Centre for Climate Adaptation (ZKA) and the Green Buildings Action Week organised by the Federal Association for Green Buildings (BuGG).
Various events are planned under the title "Make it greener days", which also coincide with the European Mobility Week, the Fair Week "Climate Justice", the CITY CYCLING campaign and the sustainability theme week of the city library. The aim of the "Make it greener days" is to highlight the importance of climate protection and climate adaptation, raise awareness of this among Chemnitz residents and provide an insight into what is and can be done for climate protection in Chemnitz.
The following events are planned, among others:
On Thursday, 21 September, from 8.30 a.m. to 2.45 p.m., the City of Chemnitz and the Bundesverband GebäudeGrün e. V. will be hosting the Green Roof Forum in Hall G of the Wirkbau Chemnitz. Interested parties can find out about options for designing and implementing green roofs and possible climate adaptation measures. Participation is free of charge. The first Urban Nature Slam, also organised by the City of Chemnitz, will take place at Weltecho on Friday, 22 September from 7 to 9 pm. At the poetry slam on the topic of urban nature, the audience will decide the winner.
On Monday, 25 September, from 1.30 to 3.30 p.m., Ute Spindler, the City of Chemnitz's Children and Youth Officer, will be hosting a children's conference on the topic of bicycles in the City Council Chamber of the Town Hall. Every year, around 80 Chemnitz primary school children spend an afternoon learning about everyday democratic life in the town hall. This year, the Chemnitz University of Technology's "Raderfahren" project is taking part. In workshops and a discussion round, the children learn how to argue and debate with each other. Also on Monday, 25 September, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., a flowering area workshop will take place in the city showcase of the New Technical Town Hall. The results of the nature city project "Chemnitz blossoms" will be presented and discussed. The aim of the event is to work out concrete solutions for creating more flowering diversity.
