Action week against sexualised violence
Awareness and activation campaign runs from 18 to 22 November
The week of action against sexualised violence against children and young people starts on Monday, 18 November. As part of the nationwide awareness and activation campaign "Don't shirk your responsibility!", numerous events will also take place in Chemnitz. This is organised by the Chemnitz Sexualised Violence Working Group - consisting of the City of Chemnitz Youth Welfare Office, Wildwasser e. V., Opferhilfe Sachsen e. V., the Chemnitz Women's Shelter and the IKOS counselling centre as well as the Stadtmission Chemnitz e. V. and the Catholic Marriage, Family and Life Counselling Service.
Since 2015, 18 November has been the European Day for the Protection of Children from Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse. The Chemnitz Working Group on Sexualised Violence is taking this as an opportunity to raise awareness of the issue in the city with various events. Among other things, there will be an exhibition in the atrium of the Moritzhof, consultations at the Office for Health and Prevention, radio reports, a film screening, a panel discussion and a theatre performance (see programme flyer).
Representatives of the media are also invited to the events.
Sexual violence can happen anywhere and at any time, and one or two children per school class are affected. The violence does not usually take place "somewhere else", but in the immediate environment of the children and young people. In order to better protect children and young people, adults need to take concrete action: Parents, family friends, teachers at schools or coaches at sports clubs. They all - all of us - need to look more closely, listen more, ask more questions when children and young people suddenly show changes in behaviour or there are signs of particular stress among them.
