Acquisition of the "Poststadion" property resolved
Poststadion secured as a sports venue in Chemnitz - artificial turf hockey pitch to be built
At its meeting today, the City Council decided that the City of Chemnitz would acquire the developed plot of land no. 198/1 at Marktsteig 110 from the Federal Post and Telecommunications Agency of the German Federal Post Office (based in Bonn). The cost of the 63,511 square metre plot amounts to a total of 655,000 euros.
The "Poststadion" sports facility located there is used by the Postsportverein Chemnitz e. V. sports club. With the purchase, the existing usage contract, which is limited until 31 December 2026, will be taken over by the City of Chemnitz and the long-term use of the sports facility for Chemnitz sport will be secured.
At present, the extensive sports facility essentially consists of a natural turf football pitch, a hard football pitch, a natural turf hockey pitch, a natural turf small pitch and a four-court tennis facility. A clubhouse with sanitary facilities and changing rooms, both of which are listed buildings, round off the site.
With the resolution of the 2023/2024 biennial budget in March 2023, the city council decided not only to acquire the "Poststadion" sports facility but also to plan and construct an artificial turf hockey pitch on the existing land in order to ensure the development of the department in the Bundesliga. The estimated costs for the construction total 1,600,000 euros. In June 2023, the School and Sports Committee had already approved a grant of 160,000 euros to Postsportverein e. V. for the necessary planning of the new hockey artificial turf pitch on the current hard pitch.
