On 12 August at 12.30 pm, the new platform lift at the ceremonial hall of the crematorium at the municipal cemetery will be ceremonially put into operation in the presence of Lord Mayor Sven Schulze.
Representatives of the media are invited to attend.
The new barrier-free access to the ceremony hall is the result of an initiative by a Chemnitz citizen who also works as a funeral speaker. Following a personal approach during a citizens' consultation with Lord Mayor Sven Schulze, a solution was developed together with the Inclusion Officer, Petra Liebetrau, the City of Chemnitz Cemetery and Funeral Services and the Office for Facility Management and Building Construction. The project then took shape with the involvement and consideration of the Chemnitz Inclusive 2030 Local Action Plan.
The construction costs totalled 193,000 euros. 38,000 euros were subsidised by the City of Chemnitz from the Participation Plan, while the Free State of Saxony funded the project with 151,000 euros. The cemetery and funeral services of the city of Chemnitz contributed 4,000 euros.
This measure was co-financed with tax revenue on the basis of the budget approved by the Saxon state parliament.
