About the dangers of alcohol during pregnancy
Exhibition from 2 to 6 December in the Stadt-Schau-Fenster, Technical Town Hall
From Monday, 2 December to Friday, 6 December, the travelling exhibition "Wenn schwanger, dann zero" (If pregnant, then zero) can be seen in the Stadt-Schau-Fenster in the Technical City Hall, Friedensplatz 1. The experience-orientated, interactive exhibition, which the Office for Health and Prevention has brought to Chemnitz, provides information about the consequences of alcohol during pregnancy. It is aimed at interested citizens, young people from year 8 and professionals. It is open Monday and Wednesday from 1pm to 4pm and Tuesday and Thursday from 1pm to 6pm.
Registration is not necessary. However, school classes can book participation via the City of Chemnitz's participation portal at https://mitdenken.sachsen.de/-fw8P1Bt6.
A themed evening will take place on 2 December from 6 to 8 pm. There will be a specialist presentation on foetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD) and a presentation by FASD Selbsthilfe Westsachsen with the views of those affected. Afterwards, guests are invited to view the exhibition and engage in open dialogue.
The consumption of alcohol, even in small quantities, can have serious consequences during pregnancy. Alcohol is a cytotoxin that irreversibly destroys cells and causes permanent damage to the baby. FASD leads to damage to the frontal brain, among other things, and those affected often have major problems coping with everyday life. Many people do not realise the danger of even small amounts of alcohol during pregnancy.
