Anyone interested is invited to the next lecture evening in the series "The City Archive presents" on Wednesday, 15 February 2017, 6 pm, in the Chemnitz City Archive building, Aue 16. Admission is free.
Chemnitz historian and archivist Dr Klaus Müller, head of the regional industrial history working group in the industrial museum's support association, will speak on the topic: "A special path. The transition from the Sächsische Webstuhlfabrik to VEB Webstuhlbau Chemnitz (1945-1952)"
The lecture is connected to the 200th birthday of the founder of the Sächsische Webstuhlfabrik Louis Ferdinand Schönherr this year and is dedicated to a relatively short period in the development of the well-known Chemnitz textile machine manufacturer. The transition from a market economy to a socialist planned economy took place here in a very specific form that differed significantly from other large companies in Chemnitz. The Sächsische Webstuhlfabrik was not expropriated by the referendum in Saxony in 1946, but was initially only placed under forced administration and even returned to its owners in 1948. After several years of continued existence as a public limited company, the company was not transferred to public ownership until 1951/1952 in connection with a white-collar criminal trial.
