A special rose will be planted in the Botanical Garden on Tuesday 29 April at 11 am.
On the occasion of the "40 Years of European Capitals of Culture" conference at the end of March, the partner capital of culture Nova Gorica presented the city of Chemnitz with a Bourbon rose. This rose will be planted as a symbol of the bond between the two cities.
Representatives of the media are invited to a photo session.
Background
Nova Gorica is a "city of roses" and even has a rose on its coat of arms. More than 12,000 roses can be found in the town centre and in the garden of the Franciscan monastery on Kostanjevica, home to the second largest collection of Bourbon roses in Europe.
Bourbon roses have spherical, large, double flowers. This type of rose is known for its sweet, fruity fragrance with notes of apricot and raspberry. It is named after the island of Bourbon (now Réunion), where it was first cultivated.
