A LOVE OF READING
7th Chemnitz Literature Days from 5 to 29 April 2018
This year, LESELUST joins the numerous events surrounding the city's 875th anniversary. Authors with close biographical ties to the city will also be given a platform on the occasion of the anniversary celebrations.
The series of events will open with a literary highlight. Chemnitz-born writers Kerstin Hensel and Jens Sparschuh and poet Hans Brinkmann, who has lived in Chemnitz for many years, will be reading from their latest books next Thursday, 5 April,
7 p.m. at the TIETZ and will be in conversation with MDR literary critic Michael Hametner. Together, they will explore the question of what influence the city has had on their own literary work. Admission is 8 euros, concessions 6 euros.
Just one day later, on 6 April at 7 p.m., the renowned Islamic scholar and author of highly acclaimed political books Michael Lüders (Wer den Wind sät: Was westliche Politik im Orient anrichtet, Buch zum Syrienkonflikt) will be a guest at the TIETZ. With his novel Amina's Restaurant, Lüders has written a modern fairy tale in which he has created a literary place of encounter and harmony in the midst of a still inharmonious world. Admission is 8 euros, concessions 6 euros.
To mark the 105th anniversary of Stefan Heym's birth, his native city of Chemnitz is organising a new edition of the reading marathon "Chemnitz reads Heym" in collaboration with the International Stefan Heym Society. On Tuesday, 10 April, readings will be held in
32 public places and unusual locations, on the market, in the Citybahn, in the IKK service centre, in libraries, bookshops, in the New Synagogue and in the theatre, people of all ages, schoolchildren, students, artists and celebrities will present texts by Stefan Heym. Admission is free.
