A journey into the Central European past
City Library: Jaroslav Rudiš reads from "Winterberg's Last Journey" on 6 July, 7 p.m., TIETZ event hall
On Wednesday, 6 July at 7 pm, the city library invites you to a reading with Jaroslav Rudiš in the TIETZ event hall. The author will be reading from his novel "Winterberg's Last Journey".

Jan Kraus works as a geriatric nurse in Berlin. He was born in Vimperk, formerly Winterberg, in the Bohemian Forest and has lived in Germany since 1986. The circumstances under which he left Czechoslovakia remain his secret. And his trauma. Kraus accompanies seriously ill people in the last days of their lives. One of them is Wenzel Winterberg. A Sudeten German, he was expelled from Czechoslovakia after the war. When Kraus meets him, he is lying paralysed in bed. It is Kraus' stories from his home in Vimperk that bring Winterberg back to life. Winterberg wants to embark on a final journey with Kraus in search of his lost love - a journey that takes the two of them through the history of Central Europe. From Berlin to Sarajevo, via Zittau, Reichenberg, Prague, Vienna and Budapest. Because Winterberg is also hiding a secret.
The author:
Jaroslav Rudiš, born in 1972 in Turnov, Czech Republic, actually wanted to become a train driver. He is now one of the Czech Republic's best-known contemporary authors. He was inspired by Bohumil Hrabal, Franz Kafka, Jaroslav Hašek and Thomas Bernhard. He writes novels, radio plays, screenplays and theatre plays.
