43 microproject ideas submitted for Chemnitz 2025
The third application phase for micro-projects on the way to becoming Capital of Culture came to an end on 30 September. This time, a total of 43 ideas from Chemnitz residents describe the city's enormous creative potential.
From formats for beautifying the cityscape to projects for children and young people to intercultural exchange, the thematic breadth of the submitted projects was surprising this time. While the first two rounds were dominated by artistic genres, this time there are also more projects from the fields of urban social exchange, environmental protection and urban history.
Ferenc Csák: "Since the beginning of the application process, we have been talking about a broad concept of culture that also includes food culture, physical culture, controversial culture, fan culture, landscape design and much more. This time, the project ideas show that the citizens also want cultural diversity and new, broadly conceived offerings for their city."
The people of Chemnitz were called upon to participate in the application process for the European Capital of Culture 2025 with creative projects.
In each of the first two rounds, eleven projects were funded that characterise the city's culture in a variety of ways and actively participate in the city's bid for the title of European Capital of Culture. A total of 35,745 euros has been made available to date.
Consultancy services have also been set up for applicants who have not yet received funding, opportunities for cooperation with professional providers have been explored and alternative financing options such as crowdfunding have been explored.
The jury, which was nominated by the programme council for the Capital of Culture application, will meet for the first time this week. A final decision on which projects will receive funding of up to 2,500 euros this time should be made by the beginning of November at the latest.
